I used to hit up The Saint(among MANY places Uptown) before Katrina when it was owned by the former bass player for White Zombie-Sean Yseult. Does she still own it or have anything to do with it? Those were some good times.

None of the bars on magazine are that great.
Rum house if you want some banging arse nachos over a couple of cocktails
Balcony Bar if you like a couple of pool tables. 2 floors and a balcony but not by any means nice. Just a casual walk in bar
Bulldog is not bad, a bit small, can get very crowded
St. Joe's is a local place, again not very big
The Vineyard is relatively new, wine bar, small food selection. It is across from rum house. This would be the nicest of the places I have mentioned so far
tchoup yard and and nola brewery are out along the river on tchoup
Then there are a variety of dingy grungy places to walk in and grab a drink all along the way
Bright side is when none of the bars are really nice, the drink prices are typically low

It appears everyone ignored the Lower Garden District part of the question.
Barrelproof is your answer for an early night drink.
Other options that are decent, definitely neighborhood spots:
Half Moon
Garden District Pub
Down the Hatch
And for a post-game blowout -- The Saint.

St Joe's was good back in the day. not sure if its still there or not.
Have not been in 10 years, but that summertime blueberry mojito was spot on.
