We rented a cx-50 last week while on vacation and damn it was tiny. A lot smaller than I was expecting.

I had a 2016 CX5 that I put about 240,000 miles on. Synthetic oil ever 8k or so and a serpentine belt that I replaced at about 150k just for peace of mind. I never even had a burned out light bulb. I sold it in 2021 and I still see it around town.

Best value?

Hyundai. No shite. Damn nice cars for what you pay. Elantras and Kona’s are in the 23k - 25k range.

Just bought the wife a 2025 Pilot Trailsport. Her 3rd Pilot. Probably put 350k on the 3 combined and only changed oil, tires and filters. The new Trailsport is really nice. No turbo engine and has all the features we need. Paid 47k plus TTL.

Anything Toyota. The fact that they hold their value you makes it a much better investment than most anything else.

I rent cars quite a bit and spend a good amount of time in them.

The ones that stick out:

CX-5 - quite possibly the worst car I’ve driven. Nothing intuitive or ergonomically organized. Total POS

Chevy Equinox - bare bones base model yet was very impressive. Excellent basic transportation.

Volvo XC60 - Fantastic car.

Jeep Wrangler - The hybrid 4cyl is an absolute boat anchor. It constantly bogs down and the transmission seems like it’s in the wrong gear. If that doesn’t bother you, slightly used ones are <$35k which could be a good value proposition

Jeep Gladiator - shite turning radius and death wobble. Pass

Anyone that lauds the Equinox can't be taken seriously... It's a POS

Probably Subaru. It comes with a visualize world peace decal on the back glass and purple haired lesbians are instantly accepted on the roadways.
