Besides pride and not being trashy, what prevents all young people from getting on welfare

Could any college kid with a part time job get on it? If their parents claim them on tax returns, is that a disqualifier?

I've always wondered why college kids didn't just get on food stamps and welfare.

Because I'm not a piece of shite that takes advantages of the system.

I was raised to be honest. Nobody likes a fricking thief and a liar.

Then theres no real reason to ask when that's going to be the majority of the reasoning.

I was wondering from a legal or statutory reason.

I would think pride is probably the biggest factor. Honestly, that wouldn't even me an option for me. Part of "being on your own" is figuring out how to survive. Some will say "well getting on welfare is their way of surviving", but I am talking about figuring it out on your own.

I believe you have to work at least 20 hours a week for food stamps and classes do not count.

Your average college students wouldn't qualify because they either have student loans for living expenses or they are being supported by their parents

did get on Obamacare for awhile which I still feel guilty about.

What's there to feel guilty about? Not all Obamacare plans are subsidized on the consumer end.

Not to mention if you're unemployed, with health insurance tied to employment there aren't many other options.

There's COBRA and what, Medicaid? I think you can relax.

You feel guilty for buying insurance so if you got a serious injury or illness, you would not have society pay for your health care??????

I knew a few kids who got on it. Hell I even looked into it.

The income threshold for a single person is extremely low though. Like 17k. I bartended my way thru school and made too much money to qualify

Why? That's different from getting on welfare unless you have exhausted all other options.

I got food stamps in college, just had to be a fully time student and work at least 20 hours. I don't know why more students didn't take advantage of it.

Welfare isn't for people who want to better themselves

If you show you're in college you can't get it
