If tweet fails to load, click here. Up to 27 tornadoes confirmed now. This is likely easily the most prolific tornado day on record for Northern, LA. None of them, thankfully, should be notable significant tornadoes, but the limited geographical scope of this outbreak is the big story. That is a lot of tornadoes for such a relatively small area, likely approaching 40 when it is all said and done. It was kind of the perfect environment and the perfect storm, structurally speaking, to make an outbreak like this happen.

Are some people in Houston still without electricity? I honestly don’t know. I would have thought a lot of those lines in a city like Houston would be underground.

Very little is underground anywhere because it’s expensive AF.

Got this email from Centerpoint late last night:
"Crews continue to focus on restoring power. We understand your frustration and we apologize for the lack of specific restoration times. Your area has been identified as one with more localized, isolated outages. Based on the status of active restoration work, we estimate your power to be restored by the end of the day, Friday, July 19. Please know, however, that restorations will be happening daily and you may be restored earlier. We will communicate any updates as that information becomes available. Thank you for your continued patience as we complete repairs and work to restore power"
I'm at the point where I'm going to kill someone, kick someone's arse or cry in a corner and shite my pants.

Yes I am hearing a lot of that for my neighborhood in Kingwood. Pretty shitty but just have to wait it out.

I got similar email. I figure they send that standard template to anyone who is in a nested outage status

Yeah I got the same message. Still without power

We were without power for 10 days for Hurricane Ike, and this was not as strong a storm. These extended times without power suck, but not unheard of.

I bet those numbers are bullshite. They can’t even figure out how to use meter comms to say who is and isn’t up and running. Also, we’re allegedly in the final 10% but still don’t really have any crews showing up and they hasn’t even picked up a line on a major street. I think they’re just lying.

Finally got power last night. What a shite show.

This was a Category 1 storm, and the response to get power returned was awful.
It’s such an embarrassment at all levels, starting with the Governors office, County and City level, and especially for Centerpoint.

Got my power back last night. Fingers crossed it stays up.

Checked on things at lunch in oak forest.
I see a decent amount of utility trucks here so that’s encouraging.
Its burning up so before tonight would be huge to get it back.

Just saw where Buzbee has filed a class action lawsuit against Centerpoint.
quote:
STATEMENT The Buzbee Law Firm will file a class action case today against Centerpoint Energy on behalf of some of the most celebrated and revered restaurants in the Houston Galveston area. These are the leaders of the restaurant industry in Texas. The case seeks class action status and makes claims for negligence and gross negligence, and other violations of law, for Centerpoint’s repeated failures to do what any reasonable and competent electricity provider would do and should do. The case alleges that Centerpoint has failed for years to invest in infrastructure, has failed to adequately inspect, maintain and upgrade equipment, has failed to adequately train personnel, has failed to have a competent storm plan in place, and has failed to adequately respond to the storm once it impacted the area. All of the restaurants suing lost power initially as a result of Hurricane Beryl, but that loss inexplicably continued due to the incompetence and utter dereliction of Centerpoint Energy. The problems at Centerpoint continue, and likely will continue, despite the accusations and condemnation from all levels of government. The restaurants filing this case, and the class of plaintiffs they seek to represent, are fed up. None of us in this area has a choice as to who provides us electricity. Centerpoint’s profits for the year 2023 were $6.536 BILLION, which represents an average increase of 7% year after year. And, Centerpoint has a literal monopoly. As such, Centerpoint has a duty to act in a reasonable manner, not the grossly negligent and incompetent way it has conducted itself for years. Imagine, if the restaurants filing this case were to conduct their businesses in the way that Centerpoint has done, these restaurants would be out of business. One thing all bringing this case want to make clear, this case is not about money—it is about forcing Centerpoint in court to do what the administrative, legislative and executive system has failed to require. We look forward to making this case in the court system and are optimistic about its success. Once filed a file-stamped copy is available it will be distributed. I would expect more lawsuits to come. TONY BUZBEE

Have about 9 trucks on my street right now. They just told us tonight or tomorrow morning at the latest. Said there's a tree on the line and they're waiting for a crew to come remove it.

Nice. Thanks for the info. Sounds like we are at the goal line. Will be amazing to get it back.
