More than 50,000 gallons of crude oil leaked last week from the Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery in Belle Chasse, which is located about 25 miles south of New Orleans, authorities announced Tuesday.

The leak, discovered Wednesday, has been contained and is undergoing cleanup. Much of the oil seeped into the refinery's stormwater system. On Tuesday, the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office estimated nearly all the oil had been recovered. None of the oil escaped the refinery site and no injuries were reported, state oil-spill responders said.

No oil inifiltrated the crawfish fields, so expect prices to rise as harvesters will have to operate the entirety of their harvesting grounds.

50,000 Gallons? That’s not much at all. Millions of BARRELS of oil naturally seep annually. And that’s just in the Gulf.

I knew a refinery in Los Angeles that lost that everyday from the 100 year old crude storage ponds (yes ponds dug into the ground with no liner) in the early 90's. Bacteria in the soil is a wonderful thing as some of it eats oil

No shite. That's a rounding error. I guarantee you someone looked in that sewer and said "Hmm. That looks a little oily." and it took them a while to find out where it was coming from.

OP just couldn't wait to breathlessly post about the refinery's systems and procedures working EXACTLY as they're designed to contain a small leak on site as if it's some great travesty.

Just an FYI, whatever is reported as a spill in a plant is usually finagled down to about 1/4 of what was actually spilled from all the “calculations”.
