"it's not fair" that previous generations didn't have to deal with that.
Late 1980s and the 1990s were great. Only really had to watch out for girls who wore jackets with shoulder pads. Those could hide a plump midsection. Had to dance with them to get a test measurement.

I have a difficult time believing this.

Go look at the data.

Women do not marry "down" very often.

Oh the teacher + x is a staple where I grew up. Lots of plant workers in x (where I live is an outlier in terms of economic opportunities for non-educated) but lots of other professionals. Having a teacher as your 2nd parent is really +EV (said as the son of a teacher). Their schedule is perfect to save money on daycare and to help with extracurriculars. You can get benefits (really helps with a self-employed spouse).

From a soft science like sociology. No thanks. They are likely only focusing on one area or type. As I said, people have far too varied a set of life experiences and personalities for anything to he a hard rule.

What is "not very often." What is "down?" Education or income? One can be educated but have a meager income. One can be a plumber and make 6 figures.

Yep. Women simply refuse to date men they deem of "lower status" than them.

It's the byproduct of the "empowerment" mantra along with cultural overcompensation enforcement among female sub communities.

Those type of women I just do not interact with. Period.

Both. Women predominantly refuse to date men who make less or have less education/status.

The worst situations are the women who date almost primarily for looks when young and then decide to transition to status dating when older. A fully have your cake and eat it too strategy.

In a 2016 paper that explored the income difference between couples in 1980 and 2012, researcher Yue Qian noted that the tendency for women to marry men with higher incomes than themselves still persists in the modern era.[21
This speaks to my question of what marrying down means. Initially were were talking education, but there are millions of women with masters degrees in fields that yield little income. There are men with no college who are pulling in far more than those women with Masters degrees.

Because they really don't know anything. Most parrot talking points. Start conversations about real-world issues like money, investing, everyday type issues that need to be addressed and you and most of them will quickly see how little they really know. That can result in them maturely humbling a bit or them lashing out. Either way, they'll realize they aren't as equipped as they thought.

The men making that money with that education do not interact or know hyper-educated women from the former group.

Hyper-educated women do not see men of a plumber status. They simply don't exist in their world.

It will vary amongst women but I'd tend to say women (in general; not all) care more about income and security.

That does not mean they will date a plant baw because they view that as "beneath them".

I've mostly seen this play out with professional class (doctor, lawyer, etc.) women who only want to date men that are the same or above them.

That's the real issue for a large swath of the male populations; these women are unreachable to them even if they could make a good match long term.
