I don't see a problem here because you should get anesthesia only for the part of the surgery where you need to be unconscious.

This is already a feature in Medicare. The general ignorance of those commenting is amazing. So much inaccurate or just plain stupid shite.

The problem is that, due to being unconscious, you don't hear the timer ring to let you know when you're being billed directly for the anesthesia. Your unconscious state has nothing to do with what's medically necessary, and everything to do with profit margins.
When you put the medical industry into the marketplace, expect market-based solutions to your medical problems.
