I do think a boat is one of those few things where if you can't pay cash, you probably shouldn't buy it.

Around 5 easy installments of ~$100. I assume you're looking for a pirogue, yes?

It's all about what monthly payment you can afford, I'll work out the other details...

10% of your net salary.

That should put you in a nice aluminum flat bottom row boat

I’m not really worried about what the note is every month so much as whether or not you plan on parking that pile in the driveway. In the last year and a half I’ve written nearly a dozen citations for homeowners who have had a boat parked in their driveway without moving it for more than 30 days. In one case I had a homeowner who had decided she was going to let her Honduran housekeeper move into the birth of a 28 foot Whaler along with three of her kids, a dog, a cat, and what I suppose was a pet raccoon. I’m not even getting into the leash laws she was breaking at the time. Just keep in mind that if you have a boat and you don’t have the proper place to store it you may end up paying the ultimate price.

I am on the same page with you. I was part Of The board in my hoa when we banned boat ownership a couple years ago.

Why the frick would you need a note for a boat? I mean unless it’s a luxury yacht or it’s your 5th or 6th boat. We’re gonna need more information. This is perplexing.

Reasonable - as much as is appropriate or fair; moderate.

Your asking us to quantify something that only you know is appropriate based on your level of comfort in relation to your level of cash-flow.

The only real answer is. ITS WHAT THE frick EVER YOU FEEL LIKE YOU WANT TO PAY.

Buy used. That way you can get a good deal on it and if you have to sell you won’t take that much of a hit.

To those saying “no note”, that is dumb. One thing you have a finite amount of is time. So if you finance and get tonenjoy it now or save up and enjoy it in 5 or 10’years, you ain’t getting that missed time back. (Note: I mean if you can afford the note in your budget).

What ever you can comfortbaly afford is a good answer

For me, personally, I am not going to finance anything I consider a toy

Houses/cars/medical bills are the only things I would finance. Or any other emergency situation

I've got a 41' Sailing Trimaran and live on her for periods of time. I'd go 1k a month on something like that if it fit the bill, but it must fit the bill. Which includes Good Resale value, something someone else will want regardless of age or engine size, a design that will always be admired and ageless, that is also a well built structure
