Don't shave, but clip them using a #1 guard. Easier to clean in the shower and don't have that sticky matted feeling using deodorant.

(Most) Women shave underarms & don’t have issues with chafing, etc. It’s one of the less sensitive body parts to shave, IMO, in terms of irritation and chance of cutting myself. I don’t think I’ve ever nicked my underarm shaving.
I don’t really have an opinion on the gay factor. I generally like body hair on men; however, I’m old, and understand this isn’t the norm for younger people.

I'm not a very hairy guy at all but I don't even shave my face. I'm not going to start adding other shite to my list to not shave.
