What does this have to do with it?
I was born in 87 and I remember them being around well into my teen years. Probably early 2000s when they went away.

I had my first job bagging groceries in 1988. This was the paper/plastic event horizon.
People hated the plastic bags.

To help ripen bananas and avocados in addition to uses at fish fries.
My little brother had a high school job at a grocery store. During the plastics bag roll out time, he’d ask if they wanted the kill a tree or choke a fish.
Walking one cougar’s groceries out, she told him she had an itchypussy. So he started looking for a fancy foreign car.

Took them a long time to finally actually do away with the paper bags. I preferred paper because they were stronger and held a lot more.

Yeah, but few had handles, so it made for more trips unloading at the house.
I'm always impressed by how many plastic bags I can take into the house at once.

We’ve always cooked popcorn on the stove. I dump the popcorn into the paper bag to season and shake. Up until recently , Office Depot would put one in the Sunday paper to promote a sale. Finally had to buy some off Amazon for my popcorn. I can get 3-4 uses out of each bag.

My father was breeding Rottweiler puppies from 79-84 and my job as a 4-10 year old kid was to scoop up all the dung and put them in doubled up paper grocery bags. They were perfect or that.

Suitcases
Lunch boxes
A place to put fried chicken or fish fresh out of the pan to soak up the grease.

Before the advent of commercial microwave popcorn, we would dump regular popcorn with some salt and a little oil in a paper bag. Stick it in the microwave and pop away. Should have spent that time at the patent office.

Well that's true. If there's a finger sticking out, that's another bag.
I save the plastic bags that didn't get a hole in them. They make good trash bags for bathroom trash cans.
