I want everyone to be taxed LESS, which is why I oppose this tax shift.

You’re conflating federal and state income tax

quote:

Yes, you do. And now you get to pay more, while i get to pay less

You don’t know if you are paying less, and if you are it’s probably not a meaningful amount. Notwithstanding the other economic conditions it may create which you will have to work with.

“I netted a $100 tax savings, but more low income residents in my state are on government assistance” are you really better off?

You see, with your rock steady conviction on this matter, i can make the same ineffective argument.

I should be getting much more than $100 in savings. And are you seriously arguing that by replacing .5% of state income tax, with .5% raise in sales tax is going to render more people onto government assistance?

Your arguments are laughable because there is no logic, only emotion and exaggerations, as well as those confident words such as "maybe" and "probably".

Well, they actually wrote about it. You can read about it. The foresight from our founders about government overreach is well beyond anything you may be able to contemplate.

Again, conflating totally different things. They also wrote about owning other people. What’s your point?

How could they have written about the contrast of an income tax as opposed to sales tax primary taxing system when neither existed?

You are making my point for me. You really don't know much about the founders. You should read up on them. And not the "but they had slaves" and then ignore everything else. That would be very simplistic of you.

Mingo said this
quote:

If you buy the same exact goods next year as you bought this year, you will, in fact, pay more.
to which you responded
quote:

I have a feeling you're going to be embarrassingly wrong on this
so yes. You did say something of the sort.

quote:

Increasing inflation increases tax burden regardless. His point is nonsensical.
you’re not wrong about Inflation increasing your tax burden, but his point still has merit. During periods of inflation, a tax system based on consumption increases your tax burden at a faster rate than one based on overall income. Which was Mingo’s point.

If you’re still struggling to understand this you can come down to my CPA office and I can explain it to you in person with examples. I won’t even bill you for my time. Holidays have me feeling generous

The founders are irrelevant to the conversation we’re having. Whether I know about them or not.

*As you say you know about them from the 30 minute Newsmax special you watched*

Did you buy the commemorative gold coin they sell during the commercials too?

in fairness, jeff landry isnt very smart. to his credit he hired richard nelson (who is very smart) to develop his tax plan. and then...not to his credit, he allowed pork fat legislators and scumbag lobbyists to make a plan that is worse than the one they tried to fix

and if you didnt see that coming you need your eyes checked

Maybe you should be smarter about your spending habits then?

Nah, who am i kidding. Just tax everyone more via income tax so you don't have to be bothered with silly things like budgets, or personal responsibility.

I don't have Netflix so it looks like my taxes are being lowered overall.

Thanks for playing.

You don’t tax them more unless they make more money. The same is not true with sales tax

lower income people are going to have less money at the end of every year.

Their income tax moves to zero.

They should save the tax savings instead of spend it on chinese made shite they dont need.

You also have to remember these sales taxes can go up or down regardless of income tax. For example, St tammany didnt vote for a jail tax extension and it expired several years ago and so sales tax decreased. If St tammany had voted for it, sales taxes would be higher now than they are.

I do get taxed less if they cut the income tax rate, genius. And i, personally, can control how much i pay in taxes if i'm subject to sales tax.

Again, say it with me, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

That's nonsense. One is voluntary and the other is not. If you don't want to pay sales taxes, you buy less.

Well no it’s not voluntary. If I buy something I have to pay. And here in the real world it takes spending to survive.

quote:

If you don't want to pay income taxes, you...go jobless and lose everything? Live off the government?

Going jobless is equally as preposterous as not buying anything. Like it or not you’ll have to pay Uncle Sam.
