This will never actually happen. You understand that, right? Never.

Umm the train is going the opposite direction. The I10 shootings are going east out of the city or going west into the city from Slidell.

I'm sure that on everyone's bucket list. Get on a train and be let off in "Downtown" New Orleans. I guess first you have to survive getting on the train at South 14th street in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge has no viable public transportation. Unless the train station is located exactly where you want to go, then there is no point of having it.

For those saying it might work if there is a stop at the airport unless the cost is $5/person roundtrip you are better off just driving to the airport and parking. However, if the cost is really low, it will be full of riffraff living in the train car.

A huge waste of money.

Peak demand will be during LSU football games, Saints games, concerts, and hurricane evacuations.

The rest of the time it will run 1/4 full if lucky with people going to the airport being the majority of the use.

Probably be used more if it ran closer to the LSU campus.

The BR-NOLA rail is going to be run by a local government agency partnering with Amtrak. It’s going to be a disaster.

While Louisiana and North Carolina are starkly different as far as governmental competence, NC has the same sort of operation going for its train service which has been widely successful.

I’m trying to decide if this is a better use of money than tearing down I-10 through Nola. It’s a tossup.

Like the interstate system?

They don’t subsidize the interstate, they maintain it. Gas taxes cover that.

Train riders are not going to cover the cost of operating the train. Tax dollars will be needed.

Big difference.

It will be popular for 5-7 weekends in the fall. Otherwise, buns and transients.

This project will be like the Ukraine for our local leaders.

Just another slush fund they can funnel tax money to themselves from. The irony, of course, is that their tax money comes directly from the people they hate the most.

Who thinks this is necessary?

It’s not that far of a drive.

By connecting two shitholes, you’ll make things worse for everyone.

some sort of automated tram / people mover.
The one in Tampa is great. If they actually build it correctly, this would solve a ton of traffic issues for parking and shuttles and would connect well with a rail stop too.

Let’s make a bet that it will not solve any traffic issues right now.
Here in Houston they have built these dumbass trains that take up a ton of the otherwise usable road. They do move people, but they are incredibly inefficient. They stop in dumb places that block traffic in certain areas. And they have most certainly not alleviated traffic where they have been placed. Not to mention they go to the “best” parts of Houston so no one actually wants to ride them.

Estimated completion date 4/1/35 assuming funds aren't depleted through rampant corruption.

Wouldn't the price be prohibitive?

What does price mean when something is being subsidized by tax dollars for whatever fiscal shortfalls it incurs?

If the right politicians want it, then taxes get raised to make sure it has the funding it needs to continue to survive.
