catholic grade school is the biggest ripoff in the entire educational system, in my opinion

even if they dont have the tip top teachers, parents should still be involved enough to teach their kids what they need to know

I'm not the product of Catholic schools. I am a private school product. I have numerous friends that were and were not products of Catholic schools and most of them who have children in the Catholic school system bitch about how much money they spend and that the classes are over crowded.

in EBR? There is no way in hell I would put my kid in an EBR public school. None.

Plus, the other thing you aren't considering is the faith based teachings that some parents want for their kids. You may not agree with that, but that doesn't make it any less valid of a concern to those parents.

Shenandoah?
Baton Rouge Visual And Performing Arts Center?
Zachary?
Brownfields?
Buchanan?

i'm going by 2002 stats (only ones that are free) showing that these five (5) EBR public schools rank in the top sixty (60) of 761 Louisiana public elementary school.

take that as you will.

depends on what the alternative is now doesnt it?

if you live in the Alleman zone (an outstanding public school) and are casual Catholics then Fatima is probably a waste of money. If you live in the NP Moss Zone (a failing public school) and are casual Catholics then Fatima is probably money well spent.

I saw you said you could send your kids to an ascension parish public school? What schools are you looking at?

I attended ascension parish public schools until 6th grade when my parents forced me into St. Theresa of Avila in Gonzales. I think it was the greatest decision they ever made. I attended Galvez Primary which was a good school (I am 20 now, by the way). I made a perfect score on the exit exam. I moved to Galvez Middle in 5th grade, made straight A's but FAILED a similar exam.

My point: ascension parish schools aren't that wonderful. If you do choose an ascension parish school, go to either prairieville middle or dutchtown. These are the areas that are growing and getting alot of new money.

You also have to consider high schools after this...which is another story.

you can send any kid to plantation for grade school (i think. dont hold me to that) and paul breaux/alleman (gifted) for middle school

hell, i went to Green T. Lindon and Youngsville Middle School and somehow managed to turn out fairly decent, even though i realize that i'm in the minority

Keep in mind that Ascension schools aren't really "good" schools, they are only good in that they meet the national average, which is, well, average.

Elementary education is the fundamental base upon which further learning is built.

Why don't you open your eyes hayseed. Most kids, outside of LA do go to public schools.

Zachary isn't EBR anymore. The Visual and performing arts, I'm guessing, is a very limited magnet school.

As for the others, no thanks. It means enough to me to go ahead and pay for the private school education rather than subjecting my kids to the will of the failed school system that is EBR Parish Schools.

Now, if I were in St Tammany, Ascension or the other parishes that do well, then it'd be a tougher choice, but I'd still pay for the Catholic School.

There's no better example of a self-fulfilling prophecy, than the demise of EBR public schools.

So you think those public schools you went to are the same now, 12 years later?

whose dumbass logic? guttata's or mine? so because I dont disagree with him it is me that is the object of your anger? what are you some kind of angry idiot?

why don't you try to refute the points I made instead of insulting me?

it is simple, smaller classes = better learning environment

Lafayette Diocese tightly controlling their student:teacher ratio is a better philosophy IMO than pushing the envelope and expanding class sizes because demand is going up. IMO the decision to expand class sizes and jeopardizing the classroom learning environment is valuing money over product, so I dont disagree with him. If that is dumbass logic, then I am a dumbass.

As a member of a School Board I would prefer to turn down Parishioners in Pre-K and K and let them find an alternative than to have our faculty, staff and facility strain with 12-18 more kids in each grade (120-180 more kids) throughout the entire school. You would be hard pressed to find Catholic School facilities in Lafayette that have classrooms big enough to even seat 32 kids. So if that is dumbass logic then yeah, we are all a bunch of dumbasses.

fricking Ascensions "Pre-K" program is really a "head start" program and its "income based" which meant I had to find an alternative since I was married and we both had jobs
