Someone with experience explain to me how there are any trees within distance of the most important feeder lines that power larger areas in this city. To me, its common sense for Entergy to cut down any potential hazard to their main lines. They've come out and butchered trees throughout the city with no notice just to get branches back from normal lines, are they too cheap to just pay for someone to chop the potentially catastrophic ones down that surround the most important areas in the city
Lines go from 500KV on down to 13KV. Most of the transmission lines are above 69KV and don’t have trees near. Some do though. Trees are cut back to stay off off the lines and falling limbs aren’t a problem. But when an entire trees fall, issues can happen to some. Distribution is different. Trees almost everywhere and lines everywhere. It’s not easy to keep them back and some don’t belong to the power company or city/parish.

Are you suggesting they've done 72 hours worth of assessments and aren't able to provide anybody with a reasonable time-line for their power restoration?
Are you suggesting they were assessing on Sunday?

No, but I am suggesting that after an expert evaluates one area and comes up with a game plan, anyone in the area who is affected should get an email or text saying if the problem is major, mid level, or minor. An initial report would be entered and then dispersed to the impacted areas and so on and so forth. Technology is pretty good these days. Transparency is vital.

Woodchase and a smidgen more of Pollard is now back up according to the Entergy outage map.

Jefferson, Goodwood, Mid-City still looks like a bloodied leprechaun tampon.

People’s unrealistic expectations are to blame. We are less than 60 hours from a major hurricane passing through. Crews are coming in from a dozen states. The first 24 hours is all about assessing and getting power to hospitals and vital services like 911 and power control centers. They have generators, large generator. But they only last so many hours. Then comes nursing homes. Then comes groceries and gas stations. Neighborhoods are last and the assessments take much longer in a storm like this. Entergy, Cleco, demco… do things the same way Southern company, Duke energy, and many more do it. They share what’s called “operating experience” every time a disaster happens and learn from each other. Giving people false hope by throwing out fake estimates is worse… much worse… than simply waiting until you can give actual, realistic information.

There actually is a game plan. These companies do run drills yearly on issues like this. They involve local law enforcement and emergency services in those drills. Cyber is involved. It’s a process. And there’s a reason for each step. It’s a huge undertaking. And they are working as quickly as they can safely. I promise.

I have DEMCO and live off ONeal Lane in eastern BR. Power went off right at 9 p.m. Sunday after a lot of blinking, etc.

DEMCO restored power to our neighborhood at precisely 5 p.m. today (Wednesday). Total outage time: 68 hours (almost 3 days).

I consider myself lucky. DEMCO normally restores power quicker than Entergy.

How could you possibly be confused about his conclusion?

This isn’t that hard.

Sounds like you feel like a person with those capabilities would be compensated appropriately by Entergy.

It almost sounds like you believe you possess those skills, which begs a few questions.

OT: “You need to be prepared to be self sufficient for at least 72 hours after a hurricane or you’re a fvcking idiot.”

OT Thread

Also OT: “Why doesn’t Entergy have a better app or something?!? It’s been almost 72 hours!”

I’ll never understand the logic that it’s ok for Entergy not to give its best estimate because some people won’t be able to handle it.

Have you ever been responsible for providing unsubstantiated estimates to people that won’t handle it well?

Demco is currently in the Terrel rd sub but switching could take a while plus they could just identify another fault so I dont have high hopes but its atleast progress

Been in this house 39 of my 50 years. Same problems, same spots every time: some crews will let you show you the problem and want to knock it out, the others are milkmen, milking the clock. I understand they are from OOT, fine, help me help you. This shite isn’t that difficult.

You’re sort of making my point.

This is a different storm with different crews but we are facing the same problems because it would require an untenable amount of resources to staff leaders and employees capable of providing different results.

What are we honestly expecting shot callers at Entergy to do this quickly?

“Listen, I won’t even pretend to believe I fully understand the competencies of the thousands of employees I’m counting on to accomplish these objectives or that I could possibly anticipate all of the setbacks they’ll surely encounter, and I realize the federal government couldn’t be bothered to answer for their failure to sufficiently accomplish what some would consider easier tasks, but damnit what do we have to lose by setting expectations based on a bunch of nonsense?”
