Anybody remember the Warehouse grocery? Had one one on Greenwell springs (I think), and another on Jefferson and airline

how about Schwegmann's? Actually a good store with nice prices and selection. too bad it didn't last... I remember there was a "SCHWEGMANN's IS COMING" sign at the corner of Perkins and Bluebonnet for about 15 years

my grandfather's grocery store, "service grocery", on east blvd near the I10 overpass. one of the last full service cut-to-order open counter butcher shops in the city

we basically grew up inside that store
drove past it the other day...really depressing

just looked up the address, i think it's now called "leo service market", 945 east blvd. just a ghetto convenience store now...

Lyman Whites Chicken wangs

I went in there once and ordered a pork chop sandwich. I got a fried pork chop between two buns and took a bite, and discovered it still had the entire bone in it. I mentioned to the employee that my pork chop sandwich had the bone in it. He said "I don't know what it is about white people. Don't y'all know a pork chop got a bone in it?"

The Happy Note

Jack the bartender who would get you hammered on two drinks.

Man I had a friend that worked there so we would go often whether she was working or not and I never once walked out sober. Those drinks were incredible.

No one has mentioned the other place that got me as drunk as I've ever been-- Jack Kelly's. Used to be in the old Great Wall parking lot, kind of where the new Great Wall is now on college. I remember when Walmart bought them and their inventory so for a solid few weeks they poured however much you wanted of anything behind the bar... Epic
