This is actually a myth. It's not a criminal violation, it's an issue of civil liability. They are fining you as the vehicle owner for allowing your vehicle to be operated in an illegal manner on public streets. It's no different than being fined for letting your grass grow too long.

Pretty sure I’m the only person on this entire board who likes red light cameras, BUT once they get the same attorneys who fought the Houston courts on this, those cameras will go bye bye.

Only a matter of time before they have to take them down. Happy trails!

In case anyone is still actually in doubt as to whether they need to pay these or not

Maybe brush up on your facts before making yourself look like an arse? All the red light tickets I have received are from taking a legal right hand turn on red

But,

Are you coming to a complete halt? Hmmm?

I'm not a legalistic individual but that subtle weakness that just can't stop progress causes traffic flow indigestion. Just take the pause and stop at the red light. Joel would be proud.

Maybe make the amount of time a light is yellow consistent across the city.

After receiving the first one yes, I've gotten three at goodwood/airline. It doesn't matter if I stop and even wait for traffic to clear as long as I make a right while it's red. It's ridiculous

YES. I saw this happen at College and Perkins just last Saturday before the game. I even said to the GF, "Thats some bullshite, nobody ran the light nor turned right on red without stopping"

I heard somewhere that an actual person reviews the tickets before mailing them out but that has to be a lie. Why pay someone to review tickets that you are mass mailing in hopes people pay them

I would say this, but I can definitely say that, at least in Memphis, the lights with the red light cams have weird yellow light timing. And I know for a fact they are inconsistent... my wife was following my somewhere... I went through one that turned yellow just as I got to it and was red before I got through. She followed me. I got a ticket. She didn't. That makes no sense, because if I ran it, then she HAD to have run it, right? They do send out two reminders, then I guess forget about them?

Although they do have some device on their cars now that actively scans license plates, and if you are parked on a city street and have outstanding tickets (even red light ones) they will tow your car. It alerts the policeman driving. So... if you have outstanding parking or red light tickets in Memphis, don't park on the city streets.

Was it Baton Rouge or New Orleans that got busted illegally shortening the yellow light times at camera enforced lights?

Also since it's a parish ordinance/contract I guess they'll all go up in St. George.

Where in the constitution does it say that you can’t be ticketed for breaking the law?

Any change to the contract to make it enforceable would subject all previous unpaid fines to ex post facto IMHO.

Some city in, I think Ohio, got busted for photoshopping green or yellow to red and then sending tickets out.

What’s wrong with these slack-arse lawyers here in New Orleans? We’ve got red light and school zone cameras all over the place.

Mayor Cantrell, who ran on a platform of removing traffic cameras, recently reduced the speed that triggers the speed trap cameras at school zones down to 24 mph, and increased the times of the school zone.

These cameras are placed in areas where there is no flashing light that indicates if the school zone is in effect, and they’re scanning license plates and putting boots on cars if you have outstanding tickets.

Why are the traffic camera tickets holding up in New Orleans and not in other cities?

Come on you lazy lawyers, get after it!
