The river district isn't going to happen. Goldman Sachs is in the process of claiming the property because Moreno defaulted on his loan with them. What should happen is build the tram, finish the water campus and then move the zoo to the river district site.

Who not spend the money improving traffic on Nicholson, or hey make a left turn lane at Nicholson and Lee?

Plans are already in the works for this to happen.

That probably makes the most sense. Or partner with LSU's vet school and put it off of River Road between Gourrier and Brightside... although that's really close to Farr Park anyway.

Nest best option would likely be the state fair grounds?

Whoever suggested the gondola should be fired immediately.

Gondolas may sound crazy and unrealistic but with all of the new high density apartments going up in the area and a limited footprint to expand roadways, going up may be the best option.

My question would be how well the system performs during one of our famous popup thunderstorms.

The bank who seized it from Moreno has already said that thy intend to move forward on the project as soon as the Tram breaks down. All of the parties involved want to build the same thing on that site, they're just squabbling about who will own it when all is said and done.

I am very aware of the greenlight program. I was being sarcastic......

but in reality a simple turn lane project will not begin construction until MAYBE the end of 2017.

Feds are paying for most of it.

But we are going to pay a minimum of 34 million dollars, and we'll have to operate it after its finished.

Are we going to put CATS in charge or start up a whole new bureaucracy. Either way its a losing proposition.

It's a build it and hope they will come situation. The free bus they have now from LSU to Downtown is under utilized. After the grandmas and grandpas and the mommas bring their kids down for a ride, who else is going to use the Tram on a regular basis???

Sure football fans on a half dozen Saturdays, but who else?

I thought about that too.

How cool would it be for LSU's School of Vet medicine to partner with BREC and run a world class zoo on the current LSU golf course (plans seem to be closing it soon anyways) featuring an incredible collection of big cats? I would just worry about noise stressing the animals out.

Putting the Zoo directly on the Nicholson Corridor would be great and ensure a high rate of visitors.

This is the first step of a much wider planned system.

This line would eventially extend to Laberge in the south and the airport (with rumored expansions) in the north.

There would be a commuter rail between br and nola (and eventially expanding to Lake Charles, Biloxi, and The Texas Triangle) with the station in downtown east.

Another line would run down government/Lobdell/Florida connecting the lsu streetcar with the commuter rail station, brcc, the main library, liberty lagoon, and cortana.

This is the start of somethig big and very beneficial.

No, the River District proposal was just under 35 acres, and it was broken up by Nicholson.

That's just was is included in the zoning site. He has other land next to it and the sewer plant that is closing. I put it together on google maps to see total acreage.

BREC gets too much of our money. The Baton Rouge Zoo sucks. Investing $110M in a zoo seems like a terrible investment. If people in Baton Rouge wanted a zoo they would go to the one we have and it would currently be decent. It isn't that far of a drive and it has never made me feel unsafe as far as area. I don't feel like people really see how much money we pay to BREC. It is ridiculous. Our government shouldn't be in the golf and water park and zoo business.
