River park is too far north to ever efficiently attract people.

Wanna bet?

Feds are paying for most of it. It's happening.

Or maybe just a white flight back in since some of the homes and neighborhoods have potential if you get the criminals out.

Started downtown already.

My dad renovated two 100+ year old houses, combined them and moved in.

I'm talking about demolishing and redeveloping the area between LSU and downtown.

The thought is this team will jump start that.

It's started a little already. There are developers buying up everything they can.

Even the 20% match that state and local governments would be on the hook for would total at least $34m a year.

You could instead put that in a trust and get $2m a year out of it for the next 30 years. With that money you could partner with Uber and only charge the passengers $1 fare per person or $3 per group to ride and pay for 300,000 rides a year.

BTW, how many people will ride this tram a year and what will the fare be?

I recall that developers bought several tracts of land along Nicholson between LSU and downtown. As of yet, not much has been done. If they could clear the criminal element out, those neighborhoods would become highly desirable. As I said, somebody has got to be the first one to start clearing out the blight and rebuilding.

A-damn-men....this 100%

For this tram to be successful that area needs to be bulldozed first. If the City of BR wants to see a increase in tax rolls...renew and restore that whole area and sit back and watch the revenue flow into the city coffers.

But it's too racist to do that.

Not sure why this is a good spot for a tram. Ride these rodes most days and not much traffic. But since money is no object maybe they can give back some of my property taxes for all the buses that were going to solve all of these problems. But federal money is going to pay for most of it. I wonder where that money comes from.

They will have to raise property taxes on businesses and possibly residential properties in order to fund the tram.

Weeee ... a tram. So frickin what. There is a bus now. People don't take it. So this is for college kids to go downtown to bars? Cool man.

This is a retarded idea. So is the frickin gondola. If you like the tram, it means you are not paying for it, you are some college kid moocher who wants to pay a buck to ride it to go to downtown bars. Frick you moochers.

Some of you are dumb as shite. The only nice part of baton rouge is the fricking campus. Why not build up the area around it? Downtown really isn't that bad. Several years ago, there weren't a lot of hotels even near campus. Now downtown has a few with nightlife that is good for people coming in for business and for football.

Yeah they have built up the corporate area and stuff, but come on, we had hotels on Acadian and College and that was about it.

LSU is a big part of baton rouge, I think it is great if they can build up that Nicholson corridor.

As others have stated, this is another pipe dream and waste of taxpayer money.

I remember anther downtown revitalization project called Catfish Town that went tits up.

There was once a huge nightclub on the Riverfront that had promise and failed.

The Casinos were next and that has not revitalized the area either. In fact the Belle is somewhat of a run down eyesore. The other "nice" Casino is not near enough to the downtown area (walking distance) to influence much tourist traffic.

About the only success story is a renewed downtown bar, restaurant scene, and Arts center that is great as a destination but I don't see the multitudes clamoring to live Downtown in the long term.

Our City Government sucks at development and should stay out of it.

I want to see gondolas and offer free rides to metro council members during thunderstorms.

I see South BR getting gentrified.
A lot of those people rent , would sell out for next to nothing if the do own, or make it a special tax district to tax them out. All of EBRP will see be a special tax district also. People will be taxed so much most middle class people will move what will be left is upper middle class or poor people.

Can you see a trans board and a fiber optic line board asking for more money when construction actually starts and at the same time nothing gets done?
