So let me get this straight. You went to the Jambalaya Shoppe, didn't like the food there so you are bitching that everywhere in Baton Rouge has shitty cajun (or creole) food?
You mentioned going to countless restaurants. Did you try other cajun (or creole) dishes or just jambalaya? I do not go to restaurants to eat jambalaya. The best jambalaya I have ever had wasn't at a restaurant and that likely applies to everyone in South Louisiana. And everyone has their own taste when it comes to Jambalaya, but next time. Why not ask around first instead of looking at reviews.
You can only trust reviews to a certain degree. Because.. you know. a lot of the people commenting can be friends or family of the business owners, etc.

It's embarrassing that recruits hear about "seafood, gumbo & jambalaya" and there is none edible anywhere near them. As a matter of fact, recruits are introduced to Louisiana culture by going to Texas De Brazil. Shameful.
You're right a a high school defensive back from Florida is not going to go to LSU despite them putting an absurd amount of db's into the NFL because he had what you consider a subpar plate of jambalaya.
A 17 year old kid would rather go to Texas De Brazil anyway.
You are truly an idiot.

First off, Baton Rouge has some good Cajun/creole restaurants you can’t say the entire city sucks because jambalaya shoppe was crappy. Second, if you think BR has good Tex-Mex/BBQ, then you’re sadly mistaken!

I'll bite because I'm honestly confused now. What is creole and cajun cuisine? Where?
Lafayette is Cajun. New Orleans is Creole.

Seriously, are you stupid?
If they want to sell a recruit on the food. He comes in on Friday night they can take him to Ruffino's then on Saturday they can take him to someone's tailgate party where, they probably have better jambalaya than any restaurant. And then at some point try to take him to Louisiana Lagniappe and that would do the job.

A lot of defensive butt-hurt in this thread.
You can't help it because you don't know any better.
The sooner you accept it, the easier it will be next time someone else starts a thread that you have no fricking taste buds and they are tired of your false claims of being a bastion of great Louisiana cooking.

Who is being defensive? I haven’t seen anyone claiming that BR has good creole or Cajun food

...so you're one of those people who thinks you can find Cajun food in New Orleans?
I understand your overall point, but you can get Cajun food in New Orleans.

He has to be trolling. Seriously. I don't know if there is a tex-mex place in South Louisiana that is a "have to go eat there" restaurant. When it comes to BBQ, we are far from Memphis.. Or Kansas City... VooDoo might be the best place for BBQ which is okay for Baton Rouge.
Also, another place to go for "cajun food", that doesn't often get mentioned.. Drusilla.

See, here’s the thing.
If you are Basing a city/region’s true culinary prowess on restaurants...you aren’t getting the true story.
While there are many great chefs at many great restaurants, some of the best cooks aren’t working in restaurants. Because restaurants are a business. They require catering to specific tastes of many people, many who don’t know shite about flavor to begin with. Plus they are trying to turn a profit, so sometimes quality/time is sacrificed for expedience and cost.
Some of the best cooking i’ve Had has been from roadside shacks and dingy little hole in the walls (shout out to Dang’s).
Because when you aren’t trying to run as many people through a restaurant to cover overhead and have more time to focus on the food, the passion in it comes out.
It’s the 12 hours of prep that goes into the 10 gallons of gumbo. The painstaking care that you put into 5 briskets and smoke them from before dawn in order to feed a graduation party.
Food is love, and when it is a job, some of the love is lost.
Cooks I know from around here, i’ll Gladly prep with them and throw down against any know it all stuffed shirt chef from some snooty place.
The best cooks I know don’t cook for a living, they cook because they love it. That’s why I don’t want to go into food business despite all the people that tell me I should.
I think i’d Lose the passion.

You made a road trip to The Jambalaya Shoppe? What’s wrong with you? I mean, it satisfies a craving in a pinch, but great jambalaya it is not.
Baton rouge has a few decent cajun restaurants in Parrain’s, Beleau’s, The Chimes, Mike Anderson’s, Tony’s, Louisiana Lagniappe, Beausoleil, Stockyard Cafe, Ruffino’s, Roberto’s, Capital city Crawfish, Bergeron’s, Sammy’s, but you went to Jam Shop? That’s on you.

Honestly Chimes is probably the best bet.

I am not butt-hurt because I know you haven't been anywhere that actually has good food.
