$0

BTR is City-Parish owned/operated via Airport Commission. They’re self sustaining through landing fees and lease agreements.

Maybe add a little concertina wire and a few machine gun towers for security!

The absolute best thing about BTR is how simple it is. I can show up 15 minutes before boarding and still have plenty of time to smoke a red and finish a double beam before I get on the plane. Why mess with perfection?

I’ve always thought that nothing says welcome to Baton Rouge more than the first thing you see as you leave the airport is a prison

Just when I think Baton Rouge couldn't be any dumber, they go and propose this BS.

Hotels like this is for airports with connecting flights. Not BTR.

There are plenty of non-hub/connection airports that have an on-site hotel. Many in BR’s market size.

I have no dog in this fight other than one of the things that grinds my gears the most is the amount of misinformation that runs through this site when it comes to things like this.

Yes

If an entrepreneur wants to make a proposal to the airport commission to build a hotel that’s great.

Why the negativity? It’s not tax dollars.

It is just ridiculous. Howell Place has been trying to get restaurants/development to work in that area of town for 15 years. How long did the Boutin's last right next to Hilton Garden Inn? Hell, even the IHOP on Harding isn't open 24 hours. I'll say that again...even an IHOP can't make enough money to stay open 24-hours.

Baton Rouge doesn't have enough flights to support a big airport hotel.

BTR has actually done pretty well with leasing out parts of the property. Coca-Cola, All Star, Express Jet, DHS, etc.

I think there's a market for this, and they'll do quite well - especially at the site closest to the terminal. 100-125 rooms isn't a massive hotel. It's an ideal spot for a Courtyard, Radisson, Hampton Inn, or one of the IHG hotels (Holiday Inn, Staybridge, etc.). They will have a steady stream of business from crews that stay overnight in Baton Rouge along with increased activity during events. The restaurant will likely do pretty well also.

This is an attainable goal, and it will help attract maintenance facilities and bigger operations for regional airlines to the airport.

None of those are co-habited within the hotel, though. Or within the confines of a safer location. The proposed hotel site(s) are adjacent to the terminal which is pretty darn safe.

100-125 rooms isn't a big airport hotel. They're looking for a developer to put in a Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Hilton Garden Inn-type hotel.

Not the 700 room Westin at Denver.

Pensacola has a 200 room Hyatt Place and a Hampton Inn. BTR is starting out smaller than that right up against the terminal:

Before airport leadership changed (and there was a delay in finding a replacement until recently), this was the plan: LINK

With a wrecker yard and a prison located directly across the street from that site, the views will be spectacular.
