Baton Rouge airport 'really' needs a hotel with these amenities; proposals being sought

Baton Rouge Metro Airport is looking for someone to develop a full-service or select-service hotel on one of two tracts of airport property.
The airport has issued a request for proposal to develop one of two 3.4-acre tracts. The minimum requirements are for a 110- to 125-room hotel, affiliated with an upscale or upper-upscale hotel brand. The hotel will have restaurant space, either operated by the hotel or leased to an operator, serving three meals a day. Other amenities, including 3,000 to 4,000 square feet of meeting space, a business center and a fitness center, also are part of the plan.
While there are five hotels near the airport, none of them has a restaurant, said Jim Caldwell, an airport spokesman.

One of the sites is a parking lot by the airport parking garage. There would be the ability to connect the hotel to the airport terminal by a covered breezeway or a climate controlled overpass. An overpass also could link the hotel to the parking garage. The other site is undeveloped green space, across from the long-term parking lot. The hotel also could be connected to the parking garage via overpass. Baton Rouge Metro is asking for base rent of $30,736 per year for each spot, plus payment of 6% of gross revenue. The minimum guarantee would be no less than $250,000 per year by the third year of operation.
The hotel and restaurant will be in one of these plots:
The new airport leaders believe that the hotel/restaurant will provide valuable amenities to passengers and airline crews at the airport while providing another source of revenue.
The airport has leased parcels to aviation companies within the airport and for industrial/commercial development along Plank Road.

How does Gravy feel about this ?

I don't think any of them have a full service restaurant (Hilton, Spring Hill, etc).

The only way he will approve is for a number of rooms to be available for $19.95 per night.

The hotel will have a restaurant. I'm guessing he is pumped.

I know. I'm saying that justifying building a new hotel because it'll have a restaurant is the definition of grasping at straws to sell this turd of a project.

Nothing like spending a lovely evening dining out with the family in Scotlandville

I think they are trying to say that the hotels on Howell Place have crime issues and crappy amenities and the airline crews that stay overnight don't like it.

Thanks but I will just continue to Uber from my house to NBR airport.
This is not a necessity. This isn't even close to being half of one.

If this will help them get Southwest Airlines, I very much support this.

With a nice view overlooking the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

I know what they're saying. I'm just annoyed because this will likely cost the taxpayers per usual.

While they're at it, let's choose a different option for the restaurant in the BR Airport. Having a WOW Wings as the only option makes no sense. What person traveling on business wants to deal with that service, wait 20 minutes for their food and eat a buffalo smothered fried chicken sandwich...

Supposedly it will be a local (fried) seafood restaurant chain.

I guarantee that whatever hotel/restaurant they build there will be a complete pile of shite with horrible service. In fact, I'll bet that it's bad enough to where, if given the choice, flight crews will go elsewhere rendering the project yet another BR boondoggle

Welp, that'll be the kiss of death

Good for them. The airport can use that and maybe some more long term parking.

We need to target a larger, chain restaurant with better quality control. For example like a Panera Bread. While it won't have as high of quality as other Panera's, a large chain like that with standards will maintain better quality control. This sounds like a stupid point but it's a step we can take towards improving efficiency of the airport.
