Most detailed and to the point press conference I've seen in a situation like this. Put a total end to all debate, questions, speculation about what went on.

Well done LEO!!!!!

Yep....a LEO on CNN afterwards said he's never seen a press conference like it! Said it was amazing!

Probably already posted but just incase others missed it:

This is the Reverend they were interviewing yesterday on WAFB, wasn't it? Then they cut him and C. Denise Marcelle off. Looks like him. Glad to see even his own people want him to STFU.

to shoot up this place and then head to BRPD HQ....well that's a shitty plan

I wonder if they found something on his phone saying HQ was next, because besides just wanting to 100% going out getting shot-it doesn't sound like he left a suicide noote/after note, heading HQ is a bad plan no doubt

seems like a fair assumption b/c he already killed the 3 LEOs and it appeared he was heading back to his car to move to another location when the SWAT guy RAMBOed him

and considering the proximity of B Quick to BRPD HQ... I'd say it's a logical assumption

ETA: and with 2 rifles and a handgun on him... didn't seem like he was finished

He was actively hunting police officers. HQ would be a good guess on his next location. He saw the cruiser there, stopped, and went up to the car in a firing position. When a cop wasn't in it he left. Saw a cop vacuuming his car and that is when he parked at the fitness expo. He was actively looking for officers to kill.

What was with the eyewitness who was talking about a guy in a red shirt and a shooter in shorts running from the police?

someone said it before but is it possible that there is a active sub group that could possibly be recruited some trained shooters and setting up these events with logistics to get them there. Seems a little odd that this shooter was said to be in Dallas during the other event and both we once military.

Also, seems that we need all officers to be trained and equipped with firepower in case of an event like this. They should all have weapons for any occurrence in the vehicle ready to go. I feel like some are bringing a knife to a gun fight.

The surveillance video from which the stills in the press conference came was not released right? They said that the video shows how everything went down and shows the deputy returning fire after being hit. I'm assuming they won't release it until after the investigation is over or maybe not at all.

The video of the officers being gunned down will never be released. As it shouldn't.

Do any patrol police officers carry "long guns" or weaponry outside of a standard 9MM or .40 caliber? I thought someone mentioned yesterday that they sometimes have more firepower in the trunk, etc. but I wasn't sure if that was actually the case. Another unsung hero in all of this is the officer who immediately called for a Bearkat/SWAT vehicle so early on in the shooting. He saved many lives since the SWAT officer took the shooter out.

Many do but I'm not sure about BRPD and if it is every unit. Even LSU pd has cruisers with rifles.

ETA: even then it was an ambush. The officers weren't prepared.

Whoa! Those pictures were intense. The first close up picture of him, the one of him aiming down sights and the blood on his gun sling all gave me a tightness in my chest. Poor guys that ran head first into that guy. Praying for them and their families/friends.

I'm way out of the loop on this, but wasn't there an "eyewitness" that said that it was a gang shootout or that shots were fired before the police got there? Where did that come from?

WAFB had that call-in eyewitness who then did a call-in with CNN. He was talking about other people running around, one with a rifle, and the shooting starting before the police got there.

Some do, but they have to qualify with everything they carry and most of these people are just normal people.

Also, securing them in the car is a whole other ordeal so most go in the trunk which is a horrible spot imo.

It becomes a trade off on how much equipment you really expect a leo to carry. Body cameras, vests, radios, weapons, and uniform all add up. Add rifle mags and rifle and the pounds add up real quick. Add body armor with the ability to stop rifle rounds and you're at even more weight.

Its much easier for people to just not be assholes.

I had a question about this. If you got hit with a nine in body armor, wouldn't it knock you down?

Depends, you'd definitely feel it and it would hurt like hell.

There are plenty of dumb redness videos of people testing out body armor.

The first cops that were shot were already there (at the gas station). Those were the ones that got ambushed. This guy likely saw the cops that came after those were shot not knowing the shots he heard before were actually the first 3 cops being shot and the return fire.
