Fricking sucks bad. Bass Pro is extremely subpar to Cabelas

The DOJ will have something to say about this. This smells like it has anti-trust problems. These two are the largest outdoor recreation retailers in the country. Having them not compete against each other is going to be painful for consumers.
Gandar Mountain and Academy just to name 2 right off the top of my head....

And yea, cabelas is far superior to AssPro
I'd agree with you everywhere but Baton Rouge. I've been to several Bass Pro's. Only Cabelas I had ever been to was the one in Gonzalez. Its terrible compared to Bass Pro in Denham. Selection isnt great, constantly out of products, and the service, to me, was never great.
Then I went to the one in Ft Worth. Holy hell, its huge for starters. But the product, service, and staff were top notch.
What will be interesting to see will be what happens to the business model. There aren't any BPS/Cabelas in close proximity to the same brand, but there are plenty in close proximity to each other. So do they rebrand Cabelas as BPS in Gonzalez and leave it open?

And the superior quality and value that is Cabela's own clothing line is gone as we knew it.
Meh, I had a Cabela's brand raincoat that I bought about 5-6 years ago. Every one of the plastic clasps had broken for the drawcords. They were sewn on in a manner that I couldn't swap them out without using a seamstress.
Drove down to the Gonzalez store to speak with them about repairing or replacing the coat because all Cabela's brand clothing comes with a "lifetime warranty." The girl at the store told me that the warranty is only good for 1-2 years.
I got ahold of customer service and they tried to tell me something similar. Finally, they just flatly gave me the address to send it in. Ended up getting a gift card with a cryptic note about a one-time exception credit.
The whole process was so frustrating that I sold the gift card online at a $20 loss, and bought a coat from another company. It sucks because I actually really like the coat, and the fabric had held up great. I was just frustrated by the cheap clasps and the way they did everything they could to not honor their warranty.

And you can add Wal-Mart to that list.
If I read this correctly, Wal-Mart sells close to $10b in "sporting goods, footwear and apparel." Bass Pro and Cabelas are obviously different from Wal-Mart/Academy/Sports Authority/Dicks/etc. because they sell mostly hunting and fishing products but still, Wal-Mart is a big player in that market - bigger than I thought.

Yeah that means even crappier customer service.

I hear Wal-Mart is a great place to "rent" fishing equipment.

That's the first thing I thought of.

Well at least Cabela's prices will go down now.
