JOSBanks for what you describe.
I second the dark gray or Navy color as opposed to black.
Sounds like you rarely wear a suit, but need a “go to” suit for the occasional event. My choice would be dark gray and then white or light blue shirt and tie to match the event. Under NO circumstance should you ever wear a dark maroon or black shirt. Black shoes/belt or brown shoes/belt depending on the occasion.

Cost should be below $400 for the suit.

Men’s Warehouse isn’t that bad.

I can second this. I had to run in this weekend for a spare tuxedo shirt (no time to reorder), and I was pleasantly surprised. A good selection of decent/modern suits and great customer service. I had never been in before, and it's definitely not as bad as it sounds.

Do we no longer do dark suits for evening weddings in the south?

We do, but just don't do black. You'll look like the catering staff.

I’ve rented a few tuxedos there over the years but it has been a while.

I have always wondered about renting someone else's clothes especially ones that are Dry Clean Only.

Makes me think how many people went commando in them, or got dry humped in them, or were baptized in booze filled bender, or all three and then some.

Renting Suits must be the perfect business model. You buy suits for few hundred. Rent them for a hundred and within a few rentals, they are paid for. Then if the renter goes on a bender or doesn't return them you charge them double the price for the suit, even more profit.

If you can wait a couple weeks…indochino

Why did Indochino get downvoted?, I was gonna make an appointment there to get measurements for a suit and shirts.

Rome’s Tuxedos on 17th or Dillards if you want to spend a little more.

Do what I do. Go rent one from any tuxedo shop.

I don't need a suit often, so renting works well plus they always have what's "in style"

I hear the powder blue suits are makinig a come back.

Or if you are bold enough see if they have a Pepto Bismo Pink suit available.

And don't skimp on getting the ruffled shirt to go with it and the matching cummerbund.

Tuxedos to Geaux has a limited suit selection, but they are reasonable and offer lifetime alterations.

If you have time, order online from Hardwick I have a black blazer and a navy blue suit from them. Ordered online and the fit is spot on. I THINK Rubenstein Brothers on Canal Street carries their suits as well. Get on their e-mail list as they will have absolutely killer e-mail deals about twice a year.

Unless you have a catering gig I would suggest you find the darkest grey you can find- or a deep charcoal or navy blue. Black suits never make anyone look good except for a formal tuxedo. No way to sound non harsh with the advice but it's the truth. Feel free to disregard.

This is the answer. A charcoal gray suit is by far the most versatile, IMO. Save the black for funerals -- and even then, the gray is just fine.

Yep.

Unless it is absolutely necessary for an event, or you are a magician, don't get a black suit. Navy and dark charcoal grey fit just about any occasion except where a formal tuxedo is needed.
