People don't always factor this is and take a "raise" and end up netting less money because of being in higher tax bracket. That is why is plateaus, because the smart people (the only ones that make that much money) know it is sometimes better to have a lower salary in the end.

Not an OT baller but we are in the upper income group in this area using that calculator

Bahahahaha, Jesus. I'm well into the top 1% for my age.
But the 1% isn't an issue. It's the top .01%.

Easy.
418,000 is in 35% tax bracket. This would mean 271,700 (65%) would be take home pay.
Let's say this person received a $5k raise bringing salary to $423,000 which is in 39.6% bracket. Take home pay would then be $255,492 (60.4%) .
So in this case, a $5000 "raise", would really result in a net loss of around $16,000.
Hope this helps

This level of commitment makes me believe you're trolling, but then again, most posters come up with the wrong answer in that math thread on the board right now.

35% $416,700 to $418,400 $120,910.25 plus 35% of the amount over $416,700
39.6% $418,400 or more $121,505.25 plus 39.6% of the amount over $418,400

C'mon guy, every man should understand how his earnings are taxed.

Your explanation is eerily similar to that wondrous thread on fuel mileage!
Best thread ever. Many here should remember.

How have you liked it?
Kinda scary to go from being a profit center to a cost center.
