I also have another employee in my team that has the same role as the 2 new developers that makes 50k less.

Those on my team with lower salaries are from another company that was bought out by the company I work for now about 7 years ago. Seems to be a pattern for those from the purchased companies are less valued.

Yea there is kinda a cult thing going on in most companies post merger.

We acquired a company several years ago, and we still don't have regular technical meetings cross site.

Hiring budgets are always higher than retention budgets, sounds like you need to dust off the resume.

Your analysis of my analysis is wonderful, as well. There are probably other hypothetically worded analyses as well, but I didn’t include any of those either. That would be because I think it will be one of the two that I did include.

See it as an opportunity to work harder or realize you’re the company bitch.

We’ve promoted guys to VP before only because we knew they cared more about title than salary. They eventually found out, got pissed, and left. We were all better off.

My gripe is that I run the highest performing team (before the 2 new members) year in year out. I manage more than any other director as far as resources and responsibilities. Feels like I'm being snubbed.

How does your compensation compare to that of these other directors?

Just got off the phone with my boss. He said he transferred them under me on purpose so I would raise an issue.

HR declined my 10% increase because I can't get 2 increases in a year. So this just gets the ball rolling on overwriting HR.

He is mad that he cannot make any promotion changes since this is his first quarter in his new position. Sounds like bad timing for it all and he wants it to get noticed since he can't do anything about it.

You have Workday so it sounds like you work for a reasonable enterprise. Typically HR will have a process called a compensation review where they compare you to peer directors and adjust your salary accordingly.

Having individual contributors that make more than you when they’re specialized and highly skilled may happen on your career. From the discussion, doesn’t sound like the case. Given your tenure it sounds like you’ve fallen behind just to the nature of how these things work. New resources coming through the door get bigger salaries.

Boss does sound unfamiliar with dealing with HR

Exactly what has happened. I requested the review, our HR is horribly bad at any deviation from the normal. If you are granted a promotion mid year they wait until your hired date to have it take effect.

Seems to be some HR hoops to jump through and my boss wanted to get visibility to it. I was promised the 10% increase by my former boss that has since moved on. It is documented but still HR declined it because it was an in place adhoc compensation adjustment.

Just red tape bullshite

Man we do compensation reviews proactively before we make transfers like this. HR are always tards but your company sounds extra special. Take some interviews and make them pay more than you want to keep you. Probably come out with them paying 10% of your base more on top of what you asked for just because they’re fricking stupid.

Be a man dude.

Why would you even opine on this subject? You can be shitty at your job as long as you want and it doesn’t matter

Then find a new job, somebody will pay you 20% more than you’re making now

Lots of reasons for this scenario. Have you been with the company for an extended stretch of years? Typically your biggest pay raises would come from switching companies/jobs.

Without knowing any details I would guess the transfer hasn’t been there nearly as long as you. Hired in at more money than similar guys that have been there for a longer time.

I could be wrong… go shop yourself and get some offers. Either take one or let your company counter to keep you.

Bro I feel you. But you are a bargain for them for what you do, and the position above you will do all they can to not replace you so their life doesn’t change. You have the experience you need from them and need to move on if you want more.

This is the unfortunate caveat of over achieving. You’re cheap and effective. A competitive advantage for the company’s books, therefore they will do all they can to keep it that way.

I would say now’s the perfect time to roll. It sounds like you have the right amount of recent success stories to stand apart from the herd in most interviews. I would have a nice conversation since it’s been instigated, then quietly look for another gig after the conversation.
