No he didn't have a camp. We packed pup tents and found dry ground where we could. Took our canoe paddles and beat down the marsh grass to flatten it so we could pitch our tents. Snakes everywhere. He said don't kill them. He caught them and put them in the bags that held our tents.

I don't like snakes and had a hard time sleeping watching the bag outside my tent writhing around all night.

We were about 5 miles deep in the basin and got lost. Clyde climbed a tall cypress tree to get his bearing. Climbed down and we were on our way to find the location he wanted to photograph.

He had built a wooden box to hold his camera and it was nailed to a cypress tree. That’s what he used to photograph the four seasons of the Atchafalaya which was published in National Geographic in 1979. He took photos from that exact location to show how the basin changes each season. The mosquitos were miserable.
