Bar Fights - Explain Why They Happen

The meeting of stupid with copious amounts of alcohol. These are usually the two main ingredients in making a bar fight.

Sometimes there is pride on the line.

Or a woman's love.

But it's usually about truck nuts.

Furthering the eye contact theory, are you a guy that carries a weapon or otherwise maintains a mindset of situational awareness and looking for threats? Your marine friend may be either watching potential threats and garnering more passive attention than you if you aren't doing that. Just a thought. Maybe your friend carries himself differently with a military background and that gets the attention of the drunk guys.

I learned from a young age to watch everybody in a bar. I'm originally from Jonesville and everyone grew up fighting. I've gotten in a lot of fights. I'm 6ft and always been over 200.

I typically make a lap when I first get into a bar and check out what type of scene/people are in there. Then you'll know what type of crowd you're dealing with. You can always point out the guys who would start something. They're in crowds of 6-10 guys with no girls around.

What kind of shitty bars do y'all go to. I have not seen a fight in many years where we go. Of course, they don't serve $.25 draft beer either.

I just don't sit around and talk shite. No jibber jabbering to slow me down. Either someone wants to fight, or get the frick away from me. I have done it, but rarely do I start shite. Couldn't tell you what makes people want to fight me. No flipping idea. It also doesn't help that I don't mind fights and won't ever back down, but that doesn't explain why people start shite with me.

Hell, sometimes I really don't feel like it and the other person does. In those cases, I usually get punched a couple of times and then keep doing what I was doing. No harm, no foul

Eta: It also doesn't help going to the types of bars I do. I'm not throwing down in the middle of Sazerac

I'm a very laid back and happy drunk, he isn't. I wonder if this difference can be picked up on from across the bar.
