What is B&H?

Large camera and electronics store in NYC.

That has great customer service, very competitive prices, good reviews/comparison tools on their website, etc.

I've gotten my TVs and electronics from them for years. Great company.

I buy a lot of shite for work from B&H.

Only complaint is they take multiple weeks off at time for some bullshite Jewish holidays multiple times a year.

Maybe they're changed in recent years...or maybe I'm just old and recall a different era. A buddy of mine, just back from a trip to NYC, I'm guessing the mid-90's...I mention I'm in the market for a video camera. He gives me a copy of a B&H catalog with the warning: "These guys aren't interested in sucking up to you for calling...they're abrupt." After waiting in the call queue, I get greeted with:

BH Guy: "What do you need?" (No hello, nothing).
Me: "Sony video camera...model 123XYZ."
BH Guy: "Tree fitty...( ) - you want it? I'm busy over heah."
Me: "I'll let you know *CLICK* (BH guy hung up on me).

So much for customer service.

At first you think that they must be kidding. There is no way these nice Jewish people are missing out on this 2k burning a hole in my pocket. So you look online for the "backdoor". Nope. Call us on the 23rd or some shite.

I have to say that I admire the dedication.

I've returned a TV and a receiver to them at separate times and they were great

Maybe they've changed ownership? This was a long time ago. They had good prices back then, the only reason I didn't buy from them was because I found a discontinued model at a couldn't pass it up price. I had an idea going in of what to expect, so it didn't shock me...but it did surprise me. I dunno...humor me a little...Hey, how you doin'? How can I help ya's?

B&H’s product comments and ratings are generally trustworthy because they have a knowledgeable customer base. You aren’t going to see many reviews like “I got this for my kid for his bday!!!! He loves it!!!!”

They've had that card offer for a few years. They make back the tax rebate with a 29.99% interest rate.

I don't think they changed ownership but when they started getting big online they made a shift to better customer service. They had to overcome the NYC camera shop stigma that people outside the Tri-state tended to have an issue with.

If you are a camera guy and ever go into the B&M store seek out Lenny, he is a short old white-haired guy and I don't know if he can take a picture even with a P&S but he has an encyclopedic knowledge of cameras and lenses. He has been there forever.
