B&H Photo finds a way to circumvent (for customer) LA sales tax changes

Dear Customer,
Everybody likes to save money! I am excited to share B&H’s new way to save you money.
As a result of Louisiana’s decision that out-of-state retailers must collect sales tax on online sales, on September 2nd, B&H will start collecting tax on shipments to Louisiana, as required by state law. We have developed a solution to eliminate the impact of this ruling on our customers.
Our solution is named Payboo! When you use the new B&H Payboo Credit Card*, you can save the equivalent of the tax — you pay the tax, and we pay you back instantly! Make any purchase at B&H with Payboo, and you will receive an instant reward equal to the sales tax you paid. And at B&H, instant means instant — no expiring points, credits, or coupons to worry about. It’s that simple. (B&H collects and remits state sales tax in accordance with state laws, so all required tax is collected and paid, and B&H issues the instant savings credit to you.)
Payboo is an exciting store credit card with, we believe, the most valuable benefit in the industry — the instant credit equal to the sales tax. As long as you pay your bill on time, you will not incur any interest or other costs.
Some might be turned off by having to get a “credit card” but the savings of 10 % and factor in B&H already being priced very competitively and in many cases less than Amazon might be something to consider for tech purchases.

Gotta respect their ingenuity, but I can't see many people signing up for this.

Where was this credit card before they had to collect sales tax?

Pretty neat, credit good only for your next purchase with them so future sales will be guaranteed.

I don't think that word applies here. They are still paying the LA sales tax

I got the email also, but your title is not accurate.

Clearly the word he was looking for is circumnavigate.

Unless I’m missing something, doesn’t sound like they actually found a way to circumvent the taxes? Just looks like a creative way for them to absorb the customer’s tax liability.
Is the credit applied to the balance on the card prior to payment?

Just want to say B&H is a great company. And I'm also always unprepared for when they're closed on Jewish holidays.

I got the card in June (sales tax was required earlier in my state), and it was actually credited at checkout. Just logged in to test checking out again, and the discount is reflected in the total at B&H when using the Payboo card as your payment method.

Early in my career when the only Jewish holidays I was aware of were Passover and Hanukkah I called another attorney and when I ask for him his paralegal said: "This is Rashoshana and he isn't in today".
I wrote a note in the file I spoke to Rashashana and ask for a callback. I went to the computer to make a tickler for the next week if I hadn't gotten a callback and happen to see it was a holiday... Rosh Hashanah.
I was so glad I didn't call him back and say I had spoken to Rashashana earlier.

This sounds like one of those Nigerian prince schemes.

The catch, of course, is that the card has a stupid-high interest rate (~29%). They quickly make the money back on those who don't pay off the balance immediately. If you set auto-pay to pay the full balance, then the tax-amount discount is free money.
