You realize a black man was elected president twice right...what percentage of the country is black?

Now imagine if the percentages were reversed...you know there would be no way in hell a white guy would get elected

You do realize that Mark Twain was born in 1835 and based a lot of his writing off his own experiences? And that Huck Finn's setting was prior to the civil war?

Someone asked me if I would trade Freddie Gray for the pharma, lawyer and military defense lobby's entire population.

Give me Freddie back on the street. He's much less an issue. Feel free to pick another arbitrary 3 groups to execute besides his chosen 3.

Yes, it doesn't necessarily prove that the word was derogatory to everyone though does it?

It's still funny to me though that most of the people who are so offended by this one word will freely throw out racial slurs about other races.

I didn't say it was derogatory. Your original post questioned if it was in use during slavery.

I just got XM radio, and since I like old school rap I turned to one of the stations. Amazing how much the N word was thrown around.
But heh, long as u can make a buck off of it, it's ok for some. Unreal

Back to the spirit of the thread. What is amazing is the speed of the settlement, especially when you consider that not one defendant has testified, no legal proof offered in a courtroom, no witness testimony. None whatsoever. Just the charges by the D.A. ( who made her views re guilt or innocence clear early on ) & the grand jury indictment, which precludes any testimony by a defendant. This is the fastest settlement I've ever heard about..what, several mths after the incident & the city is admitting liability? Don't think this won't come out in front of a jury when a trial does occur.

The police chief publicly acknowledged mistakes that contributed to his death. His honesty was the nail in the coffin.

Yeah, that's why 60% black New Orleans has a black mayor right now, right? The fact that you're serious is really hilarious.

There have been 57 presidential elections in the U.S. But black people have only been allowed to vote in 36 of them, so I'll do you the favor of ignoring the others. A black person has won 2 out of 36 elections in that time, which is about 5.5% of all elections. Meanwhile the black population is around 12% today and was around 10% back in 1870 when they were first granted the right to vote. So what's your point exactly?

Happy for the Gray family, hopefully they can pick up the pieces and we can grow as a country!
