It was a shooting a couple hours ago. A few people injured. Last I heard two US Marines on board were the ones who stopped the gunman. Gotta be the same event, right?

Amsterdam to Paris train.
Not really a whole lot of details.
Doesn't even seem clear the gunman was targeting any one in particular, just that some of our guys were on the train and stopped him/got hit.
If that is the case, America looks pretty awesome right about now. World Police!

I'm hoping not for a variety of reasons. Namely that it would be great having Americans stopping a major attack overseas that wasn't directed at them in particular.
We ballin'

I think its doubtful they were targeted too
However, its pretty easy to spot military guys out of uniform. Wonder if an average crazed gunman would know how to though. Could have been just targeting Americans, which is a bit easier.
I'm hoping that it was a random attack, and Americans kicked arse per usual.

The report says "the motivation is unknown". Translation: He shouted Allah Akbar and opened fire

Google translation of a local french news article

A man was arrested shortly after 18 h in the Paris-Amsterdam Thalys diverted to Arras after shots were fired there. Rescuers supported three wounded, two seriously affected. The terrorism prosecutor took up the investigation.
The police anti-crime brigade of the (BAC) intervened to call off the train to a man suspected of being the author of gunfire in the Thalys. The train had left Amsterdam to Paris. According to our information gathered on the spot, the man allegedly shot Kalashnikovs before being overpowered by passengers.
The track is considered a terrorist and Bernard Cazeneuve, the interior minister, arrived on site this evening. He denounced a "barbaric act" while being very careful, not only on terrorism charges but also the disclosure of the identity of the victim. He also paid tribute "to two deserving passengers" renting "their great bravery and composure."
The man placed in custody is Moroccan or of Moroccan origin and would be 26 years old, according to the very first elements of the investigation. It is mounted in Brussels train station. It was the subject of a form of intelligence, AFP reported citing a police source.
According to our information, two American soldiers would have heard the noise in the toilet of the breech of a heavy weapon being loaded. They intervened to subdue the man before he could use the weapon in the train.
His bag contained weapons, a Kalashnikov, a pistol, a knife and ammunition, according to passengers on the train.
The two soldiers were injured, one of a gunshot, the other with knives. A victim is "very seriously injured, his life is involved," and second, "less serious infringement", according to the spokesman of the Interior Ministry. The first shot, was transported by helicopter to the hospital of Lille. The second stab injured (presumably a cutter), has a superficial wound in the neck. He was transferred to the CH Arras.
Medical teams SMUR and firefighters took over a third injured. This is the actor Jean-Hugues Anglade , who played in the morning and 37º2 Braquo series. He was slightly wounded in the hand breaking a window to pull the alarm.
Four people were also shocked the subject of psychological support.
