The fiancé and I (no pics) plan on having a 3 week to month long honeymoon. Originally, we talked about backpacking through Europe, but we are also considering Asia as another option (especially because the beaches are beautiful and it is relatively cheap)

What say the OT?

Europe for sure.

Question for you if you don't mind me asking. Are you having a big wedding? I ask bc I also am getting married and we choose to have a small wedding with only family and few friends (50-60 people, sisters house) and spend the balance on a honeymoon in Europe. I am just wondering if you are doing the same. Thanks for your response in advance.

Europe unless you like to pee out of your rear and your marriage to end up on the rocks.

Europe will be a lot more $$ but is the much safer bet.

I did 2 months in the summer of 2010 after undergrad with 3 buddies. Best time of my entire life, without a doubt.

Very similar. We are all about the experience.

Asia if you want to spend less and experience much different cultures

Europe if you want to stay more in your element and look at cool old buildings and stuff

My advice: bring a suitcase instead of backpack and don't bounce around too much

That is probably the reason we will most likely choose Europe. People disappear in Asia.

My advice would be a big hiking backpack.

This.

HOWEVER, if you have flights involved, you will have to check this luggage. Europe has some weight limits on carry ons to go along with size limits (dimensions). My brother and I had to unpack jackets and where them through security to get our packs under the weight limit on a flight to Copenhagen. It was ridiculous but we got it done.

If you want to actually 'backpack Europe' then this means you will be moving around a lot. If so, then a hiking backpack is the only option.

If you want to vacation in Europe and stay at 1-2 places for an extended period of time, then a standard suitcase could be considered.

If you backpack, then plan out the logistics so that you do not have the back-track. FYI, it makes no sense to travel to the tip of Italy and then waste a day traveling back north to another country. Instead, consider Italy a 'dead end' and catch a flight from Rome to another area on the continent. Flying only cost $100 and Rome (FCO) is one of the best airports on the continent.

There are some legit fairy's from Rome to Barca, that's what we did and it wasn't bad at all.

Could have flown but we wanted to chill and it was like a crappy cruise boat but with a Casino and some really nice views.

If you're there for three months, I'd stay AT LEAST a week in each spot. Anything less and you just can't check enough out.

We did a 10 leg train pass and went from Brussels all the way around Europe, flying out of Lisbon.

To the OP what time period are you going? Summer or what?

May-June. We'd probably spend 3-4 days in big cities, stay at hostels and shite like that. Definitely going to check out the ferry idea.

Serious question I've always wondered...

What exactly does it mean to "backpack through Europe?"

Like walking across several countries Appalachian Trail style? Or catching rides from city to city?

My only recommendation is stay in hostels.
