Yeah, but you're just a nurse at a hospital with Covid patients without the time they do to internet.

was under the impression the biggest lesson learned from the first wave was that putting everyone who had low O2 sat on a vent was a mistake.

I know in our COVID ICUs they aren’t quick to put patients on vents like they were at the start of this thing. Many are being managed with high flow oxygen.

However....still doesn’t mean that things don’t get worse....and now the vent is the only option left.

Also....we still have other ICU patients on vents.

We have turned regular units into COVID ICUs....but still have our regular ICUs open. At first we were able to pull the ICU nurses from the regular one to help staff the new COVID ICU (the staff on this previous regular floor not ICU staff and therefore cannot care for vented patients cause they lack the necessary training and experience needed for critical care nursing).

But now that our COVID ICUs we created are getting full....as well as our regular ICUs....this creates a staffing issue. Add to that....we are starting to have large amounts of staff out sick as well since there is so much community spread of the virus here.

This scenario is similar at several other hospitals in the area.

I’m at home now.

And I’m not a bedside nurse.

Then you've had time to internet and therfore understand this is not an issue and that your hospital is half empty.

Do some basic googling for AZ right now. You can find article after article about the bed issue here. Our ICUs for the state are at 85% capacity. Again....the max ICU capacity is based on physical ICU beds and not what can actually be staffed by nurses. Many hospitals going into surge mode now. They are filling up pediatric floors at children only hospitals here with adult patients now.

Alabama's is at 84% capacity. That is if you believe one head doctor and completely discount every statistic the ADPH had listed on its dashboard.
I also saw a local mayor say today that 1 in 10 positive cases ends up in the hospital. That's not correct, either. That is, if you go by the state's own numbers.

I help report the federally mandated daily data to the CDC for my hospital system.

I assure you we are not half empty. Not when we have had to turn 7 entire units total for my hospital system into COVID units.

Things may be different in the state you live. But hospitalizations are drastically going up in AZ. Will we run out of beds? Probably not. And we do have plenty of vents here.

But you can still overstress the hospitals here and technically have beds and ventilators.

It’s ok, I’m just very easily frustrated now and my sarcasm meter is not as keen

I think many of us are. This just sucks. I really don’t want things to shut down again. I don’t get happy at mask mandates. I too want things to go back to normal.

Has AZ stopped all elective and non essential procedures?

People don’t realize that most hospitals run at 85% capacity roughly as is. You don’t just have entire wings hanging out empty all the time. So in order to increase capacity they have to stop taking elective procedures for awhile which also takes time.

Also, are you not in a big city? Not sure we should be discussing the entire state of AZ when it’s likely the only issues are in big cities like Phoenix.

Well hospitals in other cities in AZ are getting full and sending many patients to PHX now. I know we have several patients on our hospital that was transferred from various tribal reservations in other parts of the state because the hospitals closest to them were full.

AZ has a COVID surge line that is used statewide to help. If one hospital can’t take any more patients they can access the surge line and see about transferring those patients to other hospitals across the state. I know it is being used.

And yes....many hospitals here have recently suspended electives again because they need the ICU beds or regular beds that may have been needed for recovery after some of those surgeries (should complications arise) now for COVID patients

The thing about viruses, especially novel viruses, is they don't come with instruction manuals. It takes time to suss out what's effective, ineffective, and every degree in between. This thing came to America less than 6 months ago.

Closing everything down is obviously effective but impractical. Opening everything up with no restrictions is also impractical. Seems the most effective and practical strategy on the table is to keep high-density places closed and mandate mask usage, social distancing, and proper hygiene at all other places.

Unfortunately, a large percentage of people feel masks are a political statement or indicative of cuckhood, so I guess that leaves us with just telling everyone to stay the frick at home.

Another blow to our re-election dreams. Such a fake scam made up by MSM and the deep state just to hurt one person.
