And the reverse. We had an older spec that got saluted so often that he would just return them without skipping a beat.
I was a private in my first assignment with the Old Guard. Was walking through the parking lot while wearing my Class A uniform and got saluted by a master sergeant (peanut butter sleeve and the unit crest were a laughable combination). He played it off when he saw I was a private and tried to act like he was brushing his face

Old Guard (3rd Infantry) unit crest makes it easy to understand why

There's varying kinds of awkward people. There's the way too quiet introvert who is awkward. The awkward guy who has no idea he is awkward. Then there's the goofball type awkward but they know they are awkward and can laugh at themselves, that's the category I fall in. I also hit it off with those types really easily, kind of a comfort level with them.

I fall into both the first and the last. Like I realize I'm being awkward, usually out of shyness, then make self deprecating jokes to cut through the awkwardness.

Met this girl while in school. Ok looking but smoking hot body. She was a easy lay and would call her anytime I was in need. Semester ends.
Next semester we have our first exchange of the semester with her sorority. My first time seeing her that semester. New pledge is talking with this same girl. I see him by himself and tell him his is about to get laid and how easy she is. He reply was “Dude, that’s my girlfriend.” I find out from someone else later in the evening they had been boyfriend/girlfriend for about two or more years while in high school.

My kids talk about the same game to this day and they call it ding dong ditch.

I was a girls house awhile back and her daughter was telling us about them playing ‘ding dong ditch’ a few nights before so I guess the game has universally changed names. Probably a good thing. Her mother and I just looked at each other and laughed but didn’t say why.

I wonder if kids still play ‘smear the queer’ and if so, what do they call it?

Go with ‘surrender the transgender’. At least it rhymes.

I know you're usually very level headed about this sensitive topic, so I'm genuinely curious and not trying to be a jerk.

Hypothetically, if there were 2 games being played of the above referenced game, one by the boys and one by the girls, which group would you join?

This isn’t a one time thing but kind of just my life, usually (always) when a girl tells me hi (almost never) I just say “what” or “thanks.”

Really tough question Dave. Me personally? Probably just sit on the sideline with the girls knowing that I couldn’t play. Or stand in the back. I don’t know.

There’s no easy answer. On one hand, I don’t want kids excluded because that’s not the right answer, on the other hand, there has to be some sort of parameters and I have no idea what those restrictions would be. In my opinion, you can’t just one day come out and socially transition, then play the sport with your gender the next. I don’t know what the medical threshold would be. Also keep in mind, that this issue is very transgirl/women-centric.

Fair enough. In trying to think in even my most socially liberal way possible (and that’s against the grain for me), I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone would it’s acceptable for a male to play a physical sport with females. I know, that gets confusing when all this ‘trans’ stuff is brought into it. Like I said earlier, not in any way trying to be a jerk and poke fun at you or other transgendered folks. I just don’t get it, even if I try to be understanding that I don’t understand.
