The bar fight stories are awesome but they talk about the Municipal Auditorium it gets classic.

BTW, Duggan looks like the wrestler you least want to get in a real fight with....

Great stories. Dugan was a nut!

So was Tommy Rich, RocknRoll Express, and the ENTIRE WCCW territory. Cornette tells awesome stories.

Old Cornette. I understand he had his heyday with mid-south but it’s like his life stopped in 1989. Everything with that guy is just....dramatic and critical.

Fantastic.Duggan is from my friend's hometown, Glenn's Falls New York. Duggan dad was the Police Chief for a long time.

Meng is the consensus choice among other wrestlers. He got annoyed with a guy at a bar and ripped his bottom teeth out with his fingers. Tongans be cray.

Accurate. He has a genius mind for the business. He'd be rich as hell today if he could adapt to the business the way it is instead of the way he thinks it should be.

True Story:

Back in mid-80s I waited tables at Steak & Ale. One night Jim Duggan comes in alone. Maybe used all of 7 words when ordering. Sat there stoically devouring a 16 Oz cut of prime Rib.

When he paid us check and I brought his change, I found the nerve to ask him:

“Is it real?”

He turned his head toward me and gave me the type of state you never want to see. I mean.... a little might have come out.

After what seemed like FOREVER, he dropped a C-Note on the table, stood up, began to leave, but stopped leaned in and said:

“It’s as real as you want it to be. Just like everything else”

Great link.
Brought me back to my childhood in Hammond watching Dugan, Rock n Roll Express, Junkyard Dog, Missing Link, etc.
Still have pics with them somewhere at my parents house.

In the mid south days the wrestlers used to come into my grandma’s doctors office and also our old health club. My grandma got me autographs from all of them.

I also remember seeing Jim Duggan with his kid at our health club and walked up to him (I was around 10). I just asked him ‘how do you really feel about mad dog buzz sawyer?’ He simply stared at me for about 30 full seconds and just said (with quiet full intensity) ‘I hate his guts’.

I just smiled and walked away.

When I was a kid in the 70's and early 80's I loved watching Houston Wrestling broadcast taped matches out of the old Sam Houston Coliseum on Sunday morning TV.

The legendary Paul Boesch had an agreement to promote Mid South wrestlers in Houston and Duggan and The Junkyard Dog were my favorites to watch.

Ah yeah, you know you are right about that. For some reason I was remembering it on Sunday mornings, but now that I think about it I do remember that the matches occurred on the Friday night before and were shown on Saturday. I think it was on channel 39 here in Houston.

Micheal Hayes tried to bum a ride from me to DFW. Once at a boat show in Shreveport, Hacksaw Duggan fought Kamala and we started chatting Uganda instead of USA. He looked at us all cockeyed for screwing with his gimmick. Hacksaw sat by a buddy of mine on an airplane to Charlotte and ask my buddy why we did that, he remembered.

I am older, but Jim Duggan was the best. I went to a match when I was 11 with me dad. Now, my dad was an alcoholic. After the show, my dad and me were in the car and my dad talked shite to a guy that pulled out in front of him. My dad was drunk of course. After they fight like girls, I kicked the guy in the nuts. All kinds of people came and stopped all of it. Jim Duggan though. And up and told me way to go little guy. He knew my dad was drunk and stupid, but he said I did the right thing because it was my dad. To this day that has made me protective of friends of friends and family.

I met Hacksaw at French Riviera on Vets in Metry brah in 1995. He was on a bench press and my friend recognized when he sat up. Without even hesitating, I walked over and said, “Hacksaw?”

He looked at me for a second and said, “Yeah?”
When I shook his hand, I thought this is what it’s like to meet a celebrity. Larger than life, but still down to earth.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan entrance video

My favorite wrestler of all time.

Yep. You knew there were no more cartoons for the day when Mid South started.
