but it’s a reminder of how expendable employers view their employees. Don’t get me wrong, I know there is a bottom line and that’s how the business continues to grow, but man what a wake up call that company loyalty isn’t a two way street.

Happened to me last year, and though I was hired back almost immediately with a better position and better pay, it has changed my mindset forever in regards to employer/employee relationships, and the company took a very loyal employee and changed him forever all because of the "bottom line."

We got that wake up call a couple years ago. Eye opening experience.

I’m not saying I fault them. If they need to cut you’ll they’ll cut you. But they want you to be loyal, sign non-competes, not shop for a better paying job, etc.

Bottom line is they want loyalty but offer none. They want to foster emotional attachment to your job but there is no emotional attachment in reciprocation.

If you think there is you are a DAMN fool. Trust me.

It’s a wake up call. I sacrificed a lot for a company I thought I wanted to be with forever. Of course, I was young and naive. I loved the company and my customers, however. I looked at the money I’d made, my retirement account (which was six figures by the age of 28 and I had not contributed a penny since it was profit sharing) and realized none of it was worth the time I spent away from my baby boy at the time.

During the call I was driving to New Orleans for a meeting and had to pull over on the side of 10 to vomit. Was going through a divorce, never considered not being at that company and literally always ignored calls from recruiters. All to have it pulled out from underneath me in an instant.

I was fine financially and had two offers the next day. But I put way too much stock in the security and stability aspect that it affected me a lot the day of. Now…? I’ve learned my lesson and keep my options open, resume updated, and save emails/screen shot all positive or congratulatory communications or reports.

My company cut everybody down to 36 hours a week. I enjoy leaving at noon on Fridays, but that’s a full day’s pay per paycheck I’m not getting. But hey, the economy is doing great, right…….????

Thats were it starts until morale goes bad. Then they make a couple round of layoffs and bring remainder people back up to 40hrs...to keep them happy. Then lock you into "salary" so they can get extra work out of you. And that's how it rides out until the economy starts to turn around. Underpaid overworked but thankful you still have a job. Ask us how we know?

The economy, and my earnings, have never been better. This is the free market. If you have in-demand skills, go somewhere else and make more money. If you don't have in-demand skills, that is your own fault. Crying about it solves nothing.

I'm not trying to argue the merits of capitalism with you, but do you have some inflation adjusted analysis to justify the claims above that you can link?

That place made me appreciate a good truck stop. We ran out of water and I was down on food before TD. Got a shower and a pizza.
