It's also dangerous. I have one in my Company F-150. Twice now, it has failed to restart when I was pulling out in traffic. Had to put in in park and manually start it in the middle of the highway.

On my vehicle, there is a button that can be pressed to disable it. I cut off a quarter inch by one inch piece of plastic credit card and jammed it into the small crack on the side of the depressed button to keep the button depressed. Now the button stays depressed all the time.

It saves minimal fuel during idling while stopped, but in turn prematurely wears out the crankshaft, motor mounts, and starter motor. Dumb as frick IMO.

Not great for the battery either.

I’ve seen the aftermarket fixes for it but i read it voids your warranty.

I’m probably about to be or already am out of warranty so it may be worth looking into now.

It's an awful feature, made worse if your car's battery is on its last legs.

My parents broke down on Veterans in Metairie once because their SUV's engine turned off at a red light and the battery wouldn't restart the engine again.

No thanks.

That would be a giant pain.

I agree the feature is dumb, and even dumber it can’t be permanently disabled, but “giant pain”? It’s a single press of a very accessible button.

the system will not switch off the engine unless sufficient brake pressure has been applied beyond the pressure required to hold the vehicle at a standstill. For example, in my normal driving, the system never switches off the engine at a stop unless I choose to depress the brake pedal hard with the intention of having the engine switched off temporarily. So, more attention to brake pressure will allow you to avoid manually disabling Auto Start/Stop during normal driving. Try it out!

It takes some getting used to, but you can trick the system. There's a margin installed so the engine doesn't shut off when doing things such as stopping momentarily for a right turn. Push brakes when coming to a stop, then let up a small bit just before the vehicle stops. Only push the brakes just enough to keep the vehicle from rolling.

Pretty much this. Which is why they don’t give you a way to permanently disable it.

I can permanently turn it off in our Volvos

Download Forscan and eliminate it completely from the truck. that is what I did.

All you need is a laptop, USB to OBD2 plug from amazon, and a little bit of research on the forscan codes. I can assist if needed.

I changed a bunch of settings on my truck. I have set it so the mirrors fold in when I lock it, The windows to go up or down with the lock button on the key fob, Bambi mode (which keeps the fog lights on when the brights are turned on), Added the heated and cooled seat controls to the home screen and the heated steering wheel, changed the stock tire size so my speedometer reads correctly, turned off the seat belt dinger (annoying af). I am sure a few other settings I can't think of right now.

‘19 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Blundered into it being permanently disabled.

I left the headlights on overnight and the battery ran all the way down.

After I jumped it off to start it the next morning, the Auto Start Stop feature was permanently disabled.

I have an icon on the dashboard showing it’s off but it doesn’t flash (which is good).

Problem solved.
