New Orleans residents will get free admission each month to the Audubon Zoo, the Audubon Nature Institute announced Wednesday (Jan. 8). Free days also will be offered each month at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, the insectarium and the planetarium. Every Wednesday, Orleans Parish residents with a government-issued photo ID will receive free admission with up to four guests to Audubon attractions, rotating each week from the zoo, aquarium, butterfly garden and insectarium and the planetarium at the Louisiana Nature Center.

So basically, free admission on one Wed a month, but only if you have an Orleans Parish DL.
But wait, it gets better.

The zoo and other Audubon properties also will have free admission daily for New Orleans residents who receive SNAP (food stamp) benefits. To get in, a SNAP participant with valid ID that matches the SNAP card will get in for free, along with up to four guests. Free admission may not be available during special events, officials said.
So if you have a EBT card, you can get in free, any day you want, provided you live in Orleans Parish.
I have a feeling after a few months, you are going to hear about a tax renewal or tax increase for the Audubon properties. I know they tried to do one a couple of years ago and it lost. Looks like they are buying votes now.
As someone who has a Family Plus membership, I'm not exactly thrilled by this.

How do you go look at the same animals over and over again?

Ah, yes. The benefits of rejecting an education and living off of a government who is more than willing to pay for your poor life choices.

Kids.
My oldest could watch a lion exhibit every single day for a year and not get burnt out

Someone doesn't have kids

So now we are rewarding people on welfare?

Can EBT cards be used to purchase $12 chicken nuggets and $7 Haagen-Dazs?

lol someone reported my reply. I said nothing of race. People have no sense of humor.

I'm sure they will demand a discount, and probably get it.

Whats the point of having a family membership if they are allowing many people to get in free any day?
Its like having football season tickets paying several thousand but for 4 out of 8 games anyone can get in free.

Audubon gets about $58/year in taxes from an Orleans parish homeowner with a $250k house, and about $12million a year total. Foreman brings home over $700k/yr as CEO.
As an Orleans resident I don't mind a few free admission days to a nice zoo and aquarium. But I'd prefer they didn't try to buy votes and instead lowered (or eliminated) their millage, and shifted the taxes to things we actually need, like police, streets and drainage.
Fortunately Audubon's brash attempt at a 50 year millage renewal got slapped down a few years back.
But the pretty flamingos!
Audubon money grab

We don't live in Orleans Parish and don't have an EBT card, so the free days will be of no benefit to us.
But this is a question i will ask come renewal time. We will probably will still get it because the kids like to go... unless we notice it's having a major effect on the crowds. Never go on Wednesdays anyways... more worried about the free year round "memberships"

well the zoo is more restrictive and racist with zoo admission than most states are with voting.

So, basically screw those who actually buy their memberships for their kids.

This is absolutely going to happen. The Zoo will become a free daycare.

Christ, the melodramatics in this thread
Each of the Audubon Institute attractions, once on a month, on a Wednesday. Get a grip.
