This is terrible, but need the full story for me to have a opinion.
I find it hard to believe anything initially reported as fact bc it never is.

I see a comment on the NYT post about this on IG that says "William Randall Franklin is a murderer and being on a public road in front of ANY home or business with a gun is NOT a crime" and then there is another comment that says "fire chief deserved it, stop breaking the law and this doesn't happen".
Based on those two comments and nothing else, the only conclusion I can come to is that the Fire Chief stopped to help someone, the people who own the property where he was helping them felt the need to approach the situation and for some reason felt threatened. They probably approached aggressively and in a way that was threatening so the chief acted in away to be ready to defend himself if needed and the jackasses was thinking "shot him before he shoots me".
A problem that is never mentioned. People's lack of ability to communicate. I hope the shooter becomes someone's sex toy in prison.

Both have created a massive population of grown adults scared shitless of their own shadows. You see them everywhere you go. Grown adults scared to be in Kroger without a pistol. It is really sad that soooo many otherwise seemingly sane people are suffering from mental illness and it is generally acceptable until one of them shoots the pizza man for accidentally knocking on the wrong door....

Sad, senseless shite.
Although the article was very strange in that it took forever to explain that they were shot when going to a house to use the phone. I initially thought he had stopped to help the couple and someone shot them there.
It also says that the chief was shot and killed and two others (the couple) had gunshot wounds, but only says that the chief and one other person went to the house for the phone. So how did the other person get shot?
Poorly written article I guess. And I assume the homeowner was up to no good to just randomly shoot anybody that stepped onto his driveway.

Why not just read the article?

I'm not scared to go anywhere unarmed, but I do enjoy carrying concealed and take it seriously. I'm not even sure how this in any way relates to a person who shot someone on their own property, and the other two are still alive which may have only occurred because they returned fire.

I drive by that crime scene every few months in Chambers co.

WTF? The shooter had to be someone blitzed outside of their mind. How does stopping to help people who were hit by a deer result in this?
Dude. It’s fricking blizzarding outside. Read the damn story, you got nothing else to do

Not a surprising story

Can't stand people like this. Just open fire on someone because they are close to your house or driveway?

Anyone that shoots first and asks questions later is absolutely insane. Outside of very compelling evidence, trespassing on property (not inside the house obviously) is not a life/death situation and should not be treated as such. Poliboard has gone kind of psycho over the last 4-6 years, rarely go over there anymore. I hope every single day I won't get into an altercation where I fear for my life, and actively avoid confrontation even more when I'm carrying my concealed firearm.

Look no further than some of the "gun enthusiasts" on another TD.com board who have loaded weapons in every nook and cranny of their homes and vehicles and in every orifice of their body.

Just saw this on the ponchatoula page the other day. Woman got rightfully roasted and hopefully someone personally told her how stupid she is.

What I gathered from the article is two men tried to summon help because of an automobile accident. They couldn't because they had no cell service so they decided to go to the nearest house for help and were shot (one fatally) walking up a driveway. Am I missing something?
