Could Nashville KBNA handle traffic as a hub?
Nashville used to be a hub for AA, in the 80's and early 90's. AA also had a similar sized hub at Raleigh/Durham during the same timeframe. The BNA operation closed first, and Southwest built up their presence at BNA. RDU closed also, but kept some trans-Atlantic service, and their London flight still operates daily. Midway airlines had a hub at RDU for about 6-7 years afterward. Now, Delta has expanded and made RDU a focus city.
Delta had a small hub in Memphis before Northwest was there. Before the Delta hub, Southern Air had an operation there. After NW merged into Delta, MEM became a Delta hub once again for a little while.
The MEM hub was an unfortunate victim of 9/11, and a subsequent industry consolidation, knockout.

if Delta needed to move to another hub.
Delta isn’t moving to HSV. Y’all underestimate the O/D traffic for DL in ATL.

Virgin is like 1/20th the size of delta worldwide lol.
Exactly which is why you can't compare these other hubs to what Delta has at ATL

DFW (American) sees about 800 departures per day. ORD (United) sees about 490. IAH (United) sees about 485
ATL (Delta) sees about 1,040 every day.
Delta's network is more exposed to problems at a single airport than any other airline is to any other hub. They have built up their reliance on Atlanta too much. There is no valid comparison to how exposed Delta is to Atlanta. No one else has that many eggs in one basket.
