It sickens me that several of my close friends and family are unable to have children and that at the same time, there are people in this world that would do something this heinous.

They had one-I believe he hAd taken one out for around 25k.

Salmon, I know it's sick. That's why I got so invested because I want to make sure this guy pays for what he did to that angel. The baby is a little older than my son. At the time I remember just looking at my precious child and wondering how anyone could be so sick as to want to harm a baby like that.

A line from the Sopranos.

I've not seen you post in a while. I left the F-Bomb out of the line. So lighten up.

Anybody taking out life insurance on a child should throw up some red flags.

We have a tiny life insurance policy on mine but it's a whole life policy that we will gift him when he wants it. My parents did the same thing for me and it's got decent cash value if I ever really needed the money. ETA: it's super cheap and would only be enough to cover end of life (even just typing that made me upset) expenses should it ever be needed.

Not to mention when the wife went to pick the baby up, daycare said he never came in today and her first reply was something like I wonder if he left him in the car. Just a weird thing to say.

was the wife arrested and charged as well?

No, from what I recall they tried to connect her but couldn't find enough. I believe she knew there were problems but don't know if she ever believed he would do anything to actually harm Cooper. They were having marital issues for sure. He had recently solicited a prostitute online and brought her to a local hotel to do the deed.

Yes, anything more than cost of a burial should be suspect.

Which it was. I believe standard is like 10k, but he took out a term policy for 25k. It makes more sense to actually buy a whole life policy for less value when they're that age, because it's very unlikely that they actually die young, therefore you can spend $8-10/month for the risk, but also have something worth value to give them once they're old enough to care.

I really wasnt replying or objecting to the theme or spirit of this thread. It was the first post I replied to, where the post reads like ALL people guilty of leaving a child in a car should have the book thrown at them.

This guy in the OP excluded. There is a damned good to certain chance he's and evil bastard.

I mainly chimed in to say these cases occur often in Texas and houston especially. I know of two fairly closely. One ended well and one not. Both mothers were guilty of stupidity and being busy. One's life is destroyed and the other was lucky to only be mortified. For people who this is genuinely an accident, there sentence is handed down the instant they realize what they've done. Loss of a child is horrific. Knowing you are solely responsible is mentally catastrophic. I equated it to another common horror, backing over a child in the driveway. There is a criminal charge in each of these cases that can be made, but....? to what end? It is like kicking a person when they are lower than down. Jail time is nothing compared to the hell in their own mind. If I had either one of these things happen to me and my son!!!? Jail would just be a quiet place to kill myself.

Again, this has ZERO to do with the original guy.

No one was arguing that point. I believe a vast majority of these incidents are accidents. But not with this guy. He was researching life in prison, temperature to make animal die in car, and posting on a "child free" Reddit board. It's messed up.

Following the trial the last few weeks, I actually think this guy is going to get off. Defense is painting the lead investigator in a bad light.

If it was me I would want to go to jail. How can you just go on living life after killing your son on purpose or not? What a shitbag.

This is usually the best defense tactic when the evidence against a defendant is strong

at the end of the day they'll have to be able to show that the lead detective was so inept that he missed a bunch of exculpatory evidence or corrupt that he planted the damaging evidence

I hope not. That fricker should be locked in a hot car himself and just left in there like he did to his son.

That rat bastard.

Watched some of the trial today on Facebook Live because a college buddy's brother was an expert witness for the defense. Also did not realize that a friend from HS was on the defense team.

Really, the only reason I was on there was because people on facebook were really roasting on Gene and it was hilarious.
