It was actually a pleasant experience initially just to be in a room of like-minded people. I don't think I had ever been in a room before in which I wasn't the only person that I knew was an atheist. I'm sure I've been in a room with some, but they just didn't admit their atheism. It's refreshing to be in a social setting with people who live in the real world and don't base their life on fables and fantasies (aside from when they're playing Dungeons and Dragons, which I'm sure some of these people still did quite often).

Social misfit? Totally. I've said many times on here that I have social anxiety diorder and don't like people
Nerdy/strange? Since I'd rather be racing motocross, doing track days on a sportbike or in a Porsche or Vette, or fishing rather than playing D&D, I'll stand by a firm "no" on this one.

Athiests are stupid. So are extremely religious people. Life is a living mystery, no one knows how or why we are here, that is what makes it so beautiful and amazing.

But let me guess...you fall in that sweet spot of being just the right amount of religious, and are therefore "smart," right?

Being an atheists doesn't mean that you have all the answers or that life isn't a mystery - it just means you don't rely on fairy tales as the explanation.

yep.. hence the downvote and move on tactic.

I am likeminded. Yet donate to my local parish a lot and do activities with them. Just don't go to mass. Now granted most of that is to maintain appearances with plans for the kids to stay in the Catholic system. Also the oldest is embracing Catholicism, and I think that's great for her. I would never try to force my beliefs.
Though I did like the priest at their old school better, more relaxed a really cool Viet priest. The new school priest are really Conservative.

I try not to use such blunt terms any more. It is very pointed and upsetting. Instead of saying "I don't respect your belief", calling them fairy tales, is flat out ridiculing their beliefs.

I agree with all of this, but I do so very sarcastically because you seem like an insufferable douche.

I use blunt terms because ridiculing something that is ridiculous is fine with me.I'd be fine with "you stick to your beliefs and I'll stick to mine" if the religious folks weren't trying to force religion into schools, force it into politics, etc. Don't have a Christian prayer at school assemblies unless you're going to open that podium to every other religion as well. Now as long as you don't spend tax money to do it, I don't care if you're going to put up a Christmas display somewhere public (again, as long as it's an equal opportunity thing). I have as much disdain for " militant atheists" as I do for religious fanatics.

No,I am agnostic. Whether god made us, or we are a cosmic coincidance, the fact that we are here at all is a miracle and I couldn't be more grateful. If that makes me a douche ok.

I just think it's stupid to "choose a side". I claimed to be an athiest for a long time until I realized that saying there absolutely is no god is just as dumb as saying there absolutely is a god.

How do you know that that is their reasoning? I would say there are more people that think they are athiest but are actually agnostic. Believing that the bible is a bunch of bullshite does not make you an athiest.

Believing that there is absolutely, 100% not a god, is athiesm. A lot of athiests think that just because they arent religious, that they are athiests, but they are actually agnostic.

Let me simplify it

I know god exists = religious
I know god doesn't exist = athiest
I don't know if God exists or not = agnostic

I would even go so far as to say thay a lot or religious people are agnostics in denial. They know deep down that maybe there is no devine creator, but they are afraid to admit it.

You're doing it wrong. A major benefit of atheism is not having to go to such meetings.

According to Christian religion it does.
