At what point does an unattended material cart at Lowe’s become fair game?

You need one of those blue material carts. The only one close is sitting there alone wirh a piece of plywood on it. A few minutes later still sitting there.
What is the play here?

You're very bored aren't you?

It's in play whether someone is with it or not.

Pee on it. Then it's yours.

1. Put hand on cart and menacingly look around.
2. If someone reacts, check their knuckles.
3. If no one reacts, take cart.
4. Profit.

Take the wood off, hop on and ride it like a scotter up and down the isle.
If it did belong to someone, they definitely aren’t going to try to take it away from you.

This exact situation happened to me a few months ago, went to Home Depot to get a few things. Sitting in the lumber section picking out some wood I need for a project.
There is this orange cart sitting up against the side isle with nothing on it. I sit there looking at prices for a good 10 min eyeing the cart, no one is on my isle that I could see.
When Im ready to check out I decide what the hell, and grab the cart. As soon as I place my hand on it, some dude turns the corner "hey, that's my cart man.. sorry.."
I kind of look at him funny, kind of amused he is so concerned over his cart.
Went to the front of the store and got another one. No reason to make it a big deal.

Dude I was at lowes a couple weeks ago and went outside to get a cart because I didn't see any available. I bring it in and walk it down towards the middle of the aisle and leave it to then go look at some wood towards the back. I turned around not even 2 minutes later and someone had stolen it
. Fortunately I didn't need it anyways because they didn't have what I wanted but it was pretty funny to me that it was taken that quickly.

Stop doing upskirts at Lowe's and take the damn card.

Just stop before you drive the cart off of the isle into the water.

Not quite the same issue, but a few weeks ago I had a cart at HD with some landscaping bricks in them. I was standing maybe 10 feet away looking at something else. Nobody else in that aisle (so it should be pretty obvious it's my cart). Then this couple walks through, stops and starts looking at the bricks in my cart, picking them up, inspecting them, comparing, etc. Those same bricks were on display a little further down the aisle, so I'm not sure why they had to look at the ones in my cart, but whatever, not a big deal, I just let them do it while I keep looking at something else. Well, 2 minutes goes by and I'm ready to move on, but they're still poking around my cart's contents, so I walk up and say "excuse me I need to check out" and start pushing my basket and they give me this incredulous look like I'm a weirdo for interrupting them. Like they couldn't comprehend that it was my cart and I was ready to go. I told them as I started to walk away that those same bricks were a few displays down if they were interested, but neither said a word and they wandered off in another direction. People are so fricking weird.
