Since this is the *best* place to ask serious questions, i feel like i should give it a shot.

Like 99% of people, I have my good days and bad ones. But it’s starting to feel like the bad ones are more frequent and happen for no specific reason at all. Any good thing i might have going, i immediately start thinking about how it’s going to crumble for no good reason at all. To be fair, that particular feeling seems warranted in my life. The good things just never really last.

Never been suicidal and don’t think I ever could be. But I’m also starting to feel like I wouldn’t mind so much if i didn’t wake up to see another day, even though tomorrow could legitimately be awesome for me. It’s a weird feeling.

Sorry for the rambling, but any of you baws seen brighter days more consistently after going to see someone? All jokes are welcome btw, lay them on me. I know this isn’t the best place for this

Go talk to someone now. Don’t wait. Therapist do work for a lot of people….the ones that seek it and try to better themselves. Don’t let yourself get to a point where you don’t even want life to be better.

I found it helped for me to get things off my chest I was holding in. Talking to someone who can relate and the confidentiality are two huge pluses. It's not instant gratification but does keep you afloat mentally.

I have never been to one, but I probably could have used one at some points in life.

If I could go back in time I probably would have just to see if there was a better way to cope with stuff I was dealing with besides resorting to the drugs, alcohol and partying every night for a couple years.

Go see one. Start with Psychology Today to find a therapist in your area. This site allows you to search for the type of therapist that probably works best for your situation. I found a really good one that helped me when I was at my lowest.

What IT DAWG said is true. Go see
someone now.

* I am going to add that therapy often gets stigmatized as something only for people with “mental illness”. If you had an issue with your taxes you didn’t feel you could fix, you’d go see an accountant right? Or a mechanic for a major issue with your car?

* I am not a doctor or therapist

Listen man, go see someone now. My best friend battled with this shite on his own for the last couple years and I regret every day not telling him to get help. Things can turn around for you tomorrow if you take the first step.

When things get bad a therapist helps. I used one a few times and I can say they do help a ton.

talking about it to anyone will help. when you start talking about it, your brain will start releasing good hormones in your brain and over time those chemical reactions make your brain better. typing it can help but talking is much much better. you need to create good chemical reactions in your brain. that's ultimately what happens when someone talks to a therapist.

Well said. I'll admit to having this preconceived notion in regards to therapy. shite, when I was younger I actually thought seeing one meant you were mentally weak.

I had some bumps in the past so I saw one and it helped tremendously. I think everyone would benefit from talking to a professional, even if things are going well. There were things weighing on me that I never would have discovered without one.

If the thought of seeing a therapist crosses your mind, even if only for a second, you should go.

Go now…. And I can’t say it enough. It takes time to get in some doctors. Find one that takes your insurance. It’s completely normal to talk to someone. I use mine for professional advice, marital help, social help, almost anything. It’s no different than going to workout at the gym. Just for your mind… which mental is the most important of all. What you will find is that there are a lot more people than you think that have a therapist.

I was like "the sign guy must've messed up, put too much space or something, now way this is the rapist's office."

Double, no triple check that shite when you get there.

Yeah, as others have said, go now, and don't wait. It's always best to talk to someone and see what they have to offer to help than not.

I meet with a therapist every two weeks for 45 minutes. After the first couple sessions after you get to know one another It’s becomes something on my calendar that I look forward to and have a good place to just drop all my baggage and discuss.

I find it’s helpful in my life.

I’m of the line of thinking everyone should talk to a therapist…. Or bartender, prostitute.

I’ve wondered too if a therapist is for me. I feel like I’m already really introspective and reflect on what’s going on with me. I just have a confidence and a will power problem. Can therapists fix that?

I’ve been to more therapy that I should probably admit, most of it I’m alcohol rehab groups but some one on one too. There is a medical side and a talk therapy side, you want to see one with that can help you with the both. For the first time in my life, my anxiety doesn’t rule my decisions. I have finally learned the concept of making today great and do that enough times, and you have a good week, month, year. The medicine surely helps, but the therapist finally helped get over some stuff that lingered in my heart for a long time. I still have bad days, but they’re far fewer and I don’t result to a bottle ever anymore.

It can’t hurt. It can only help or stay the same. Start looking and make an appt now, I don’t know where you’re located but the need is larger than the supply. I had to wait 4 months for the guy I wanted here in Houston.

Yes, they can help but you have some work to do too. You can’t just talk your problems away. A therapist will provide some accountability in your life and maybe help you to see some things about yourself you hadn’t realized, hence your self confidence issues.

Go. Seriously. Don't let ego get in the way.

I've always struggled with mild bouts of depressive episodes.. but last year they got bad, particularly after Ida came through and my grandmother, whom I was very close to, passed away.

Turns out.. I just stuff emotions down and don't deal with them, including stress. I also get burnt out really bad at work because I don't set boundaries, I just get the shite done.. At the cost of my own sanity.

Working with a therapist is helping me me find what I need to do to put my personal priorities first, strategize stress relief, and eventually we'll get to actually learning how to identify and deal with emotions appropriately.

I thought going to therapy was BS until I went through a really tough time and broke down and went to see one.

Now I am a believer.

If you're asking that question here, you probably should be talking to someone, bud. I'm guessing you're probably farther on down the road than you're letting on. If you're still not sure, then my recommendation is eat better, take vitamins, and exercise. See how you feel after a couple months.
