i can't accurately answer the question without you defining what your interpretation of "get real" means?

Either when I was 5 months old, and my dad died... Or probably the more legit answer, when I was 32 and had twins.

Still hasn't. I've never lost anyone really close to me and for some reason I know that when I do shite will get real. Kind of a weird thought now that I type it out

56. Wife got the big C but seems to be defeating it. Life gets very real when you or a loved one's doom is impending.

I assume right around the time I was conceived.

Someone give their definition of life getting "real"

Can I change my answer to when I discovered my penis? It's the OT thing to do!

It really hasn't yet. I'm amazed at the things we put ourselves through and consider it "normal."
My life feels like some weird, twisted fantasy and that isn't necessarily bad.

When life stopped being care free, and you started to worry about more than yourself and what you wanted to do and started to figure out what you needed to do and when it started to hit you that you or the people you care about may not be around forever..
Run on, I know..

Sir, thank you for your service. That's as real as it gets.

I would say age 20 for me, last year... My mom got breast cancer. It really put things into perspective for me. She's recovered though and is cancer free today

What does that even mean? Like when did we start to realize we were mortal? For me it was when I was like 7 or 8.

16, Dad was a big believer in making your own way. Glad he did it, but struggled all my life until after college.

At 17 when I was riding the bus to school one day and a kid asked me what I was going to do that day.
Let me just say that an army man had a bad ride to school that day.

Life got real early for me due to family reasons. I get looked down upon because of choices, but life's curve balls don't effect me the way it does many others. I travel where I want, when I want, with no consequence. If I got ill or injured I'm covered. Truck craps out? Go out and buy a new one. One of my favorite scenes in a movie is from The Gambler with John Goodman talking about being in a position of frick you. I'm not quiet there yet but at 32 I'm well on my way. Those people that look down up on me find out they are living a short lived dream and not prepared for what life throws at them. All they end up having is some facebook pics to brag about.
