I knew that because my wife was 35 when she had the youngest one. It seemed pretty young to me to be considered high risk but she did have a pretty rough time

In China if you’re a single woman over like 25 they call you a “leftover woman” and you’ll never leave your parents home. I knew several white guys that married Chinese women in their 30s and they would never have been taken by a Chinese man.

35 is when they start really getting worried that their time is up. Modern medicine extends their window another few years after that, but that's the evolutionary drop dead date for a lot of them.

If you hit 35 and haven’t had a kid, your window is running out. Especially if you have any form of fertility issue that means fricking around trying to figure out what is going on.

Yep.
And a lot of women safely have children even into their late 30s and beyond these days. Even ones that are settled down and married - people are waiting longer to get settled in their careers. Risk goes up after 35, and even more after 40.
