Between 30 and 35

Around 30, but then another noticible hit at 40.
Now I have to exercise, cardio almost everyday and eat well to keep from gaining weight. It sucks.
Yep.
Science says it's about 7% decrease per decade starting at 30. So it's real but it's not nearly the valid excuse people make it out to be.
How hard is it to cut daily calories by 175 from 30 to 40, and 350 from 40 to 50?
I make no excuses for my shape now. 4kcal a day ain't good for nobody this idle.

These guys over 40 who are telling you that they don't have to eat better and work harder to stay in shape are kidding themselves.

Absolutely right bud.
America may be obese as a nation but go to any 5k race on any given Saturday in any given city and the deepest age groups are between 30-60.
Out there, you'll find plenty examples of men and women keeping fit while managing work, kids, grandkids, etc.

Exactly. They read shite about metabolism slowing down and automatically assume it's like HALF of what it use to be. When it's really just cutting back one soda or plain ham and cheese sammich a day.

Hasn't yet
But I exercise 4-5 days a week
If you don't exercise eventually something will happen and the fat will start piling up. If you haven't made the gym a habit at that point in your life it will be hard to do so. So the fatter you get the harder it is to start. And it's a vicious cycle.

Mine didn't until I hit 50, but I exercise a lot.

I haven’t drunk a soda in a few years, had a 20 oz Mountain Dew the other day and it made me feel like crap.... soda has to be worse than crack.

Even at age 50, you might just have low T. Which can easily be supplemented.

I haven't had a leaded soft drink in probably 15 years.

Your metabolism slowing down isn't a magical thing. It's mostly (but not completely) due to a loss of skeletal muscle mass, which happens naturally as you age. So many people think you need to do cardio to stay thin and cardio is important for cardio-pulmonary health. But maintaining skeletal muscle is even more important if you want to stay "thin" as you age.
You don't need to spend hours in the weight room bulking up. You don't even need to go to a gym. You just need to do enough so your muscles don't atrophy from a lack of use. Exercises as simple as push ups and body weight squats can go a long way if you do them regularly.

Probably has to do with a drop in testosterone as well, at least for men. Things do change as you age - sex drive, metabolism etc. It's not some drastic fall off for most though and can regulated fairly easily.
