Except for one summer between transferring schools I was out the house at 18. It would have been gravy living at home past then because my parents are cool as shite, but it would have just felt wrong and trashy.

Out of the house at 18. Parents paid rent through undergrad and law school. Started paying rent myself at 26. Thanks parents.

18 but it was 1986 so it was pretty much expected that after high school you go to college or to work. Either way you move out.
I think this is the mindset of most people in this age range. I know almost every gen x person i grew up with or knew couldn't get out the house fast enough. My bro and i were out the house at 17 and never moved back

When I moved out I didn’t pay rent I had a home.

I moved out entirely at 19. Now that my daughter is in college, technically, she's out, but she has a room here and comes home from school for visits. She'll always have a room in our home to come back to for visits if she moves away and until she has her own place.

Yep. Whether going to college, working or both, independence was extremely important. I know guys that had roommates, but were glad to be independent of parents.

18-22...away at college 80% of each year. Saved money for a year...then out at 23.
