Tom Hanks
Second guess: Leo Decaprio

Imagine all the lewd deeds they each had to perform to get to where they are.

That might be the most comically inaccurate take in this entire thread .
"Recency bias" ?? Maybe you just learned that phrase and wanted to try it out , im not sure- but TC has been arguably THE #1 movie star for 40 years now.. even before Top Gun which premiered exactly 40 years ago last month- he had done Risky Business a few years before that.. so one could say he's been at the tippy top of the industry for almost 45 years.. that's wild, and even though other actors may have been at the top for a handful of years, absolutely no one in movie history has had a run that solid for that many years.. not Gable, not John Wayne, not Jimmy Stewart.. im old enough to remember two guys who were at the very top of the box office for a handful of years in a row- Burt Reynolds, and Kevin Costner.. ask anyone under 35 and of course they will have heard of those guys, but if you tell them that either one of them were EVER #1 , they would call you a liar.. also there were stretches where one could say that Arnold was #1, or Hanks was #1, or Will was #1.. but none for as long as Cruise .
The only one with staying power like Cruise is Harrison Ford.. but still not the same level and quality, though it is close .

Most overrated actor in history of film.

Are you just trolling?

Will Smith can't hold a candle to the rest on the list.

Not at all. People have short memories.

If the metric is staying power, I would have to agree. But that wasn't the question.

The question ? My post, and almost every post in this thread, has morphed into a conversation about actors and movies and other stuff.. I wasn't strictly trying to answer one question in my post, if everyone did that it would be boring .

The thread is full of people talking about all the great movies Cruise has been in. You’re either trolling or retarded.

First off, I have a special needs cousin and I really don't appreciate you using that word. It's offensive to those of us that have close family members with developmental challenges.
Second, Tom Cruise is a fine actor. I never said otherwise. I like tons of his movies. But the fact remained he never had an individual hit movie as big as Tom Hanks did. That's a fact that can be backed up objectively with number (ticket sales).
You have your opinion and I have mine. Let's leave it at that.

will smith has no business being in this list.
He's not even in the same category as Leo Hank’s and Cruise in terms of acting.

Seriously. Go pound sand.
Call me anything you want. But don't talk about someone who I care about and can't defend themselves (verbally). They would probably dot your eye though...

Just to add; He was in The Pursuit of Happyness in 2006, I am Legend in 2007, and Seven Pounds in 2008.
Those were great movies imo, but it was indeed the end of his run after that.
Good movies. I wouldn't call them great. Will Smith wasn't in any great movies. He's a mediocre actor. Pitt, Cruise, and Hanks are much better.
I'd have Will way down the list.
